3. Get a hold of 3 or 4 ounces of good quality, dried Peppermint leaves, and make a hydrosol. Once it’s prepared, you can
have a little taste – but be careful, as it will probably be quite strong! How did it come out? What will you use it for?

At this time, I don’t have the equipment to make a hydrosol, unfortunately. As I grow more herbs this
summer and flowers bloom, I will gather some equipment and make hydrosols. First as gifts for friends and
family, then maybe I will some at the local Farmers Market, where I have sold some of my herbal and plan to
again this year.

8. If you wish, continue your contemplation of the Four Elements. Record any feelings / observations that occur during these
meditations. Try approaching an herb you feel close to and asking it for its elemental associations. You can do this directly, or
essay
use a pendulum. It is possible you may get more than one answer! As always, record these experiences.

I asked Comfrey last summer how I could understand it better. I knew it was a valuable healing plant, but it
was so prevalent in the garden that it made me very frustrated at first. What I got from sitting with Comfrey
was “patience, stillness, and Love”, that I took to be a message. I tried to practise those feelings when I was
in the garden. Then it came to me as ways I could distribute the excess plants, so I gave them away to people
who wanted them for their compost, as nourishment for their garden, or for healing medicines that they
made. I also left some in my garden for the bees and other flying beings to enjoy. I harvested some to make
comfrey oil for herbal medicines and I added some to my own compost. By that time, I realized that I had
heard the message and actually felt it too, when I was in the garden. I no longer felt the irritation that I had
the “work” of dealing with Comfrey....I felt the gift of Comfrey, that benefitted me, as well as others who
received the plants or its medicines.
To me it seems like the Element of Comfrey is Earth, because of its powerful life force expressed by roots
that can grow in almost the total absence of light and from just any piece of the root. It heals the structures
of beings, like the skin and bones with its medicines
