Club Profiles LINKS Club: Leadership, Integrity, Nobility, Kinship, Success This club is an opportunity for you to do great things and to receive recognition for them. Short term and/or long term activities and projects are determined by the club advisors and you. Students in good standing are honored for good behavior, academics and for broadening their experiences and contributing to the community. Do you want to do crafts? Have fun? Make a difference? Weeks: 2 and 4 Advisors: Mrs. Frey and Mrs. Falsone (6th Grade) Mrs. Kyle (7th Grade) Mrs. VanWely (8th Grade) Student Council: Middle School Student Council members are the leaders of tomorrow!! The purpose of Student Council is to help students develop leadership skills. Leadership involves planning, organization, commitment, and integrity. Student Council plans and organizes many of the functions and activities in the school. Involvement in fundraising is necessary to help finance the various activities. A President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary will be elected by all middle school students. In addition, 5 grade level representatives will participate in Student Council. Weeks: 1 and 3 Advisor: Mrs. Joy Student Store Club: This club is responsible for operating the RJMS Student Store, located in the front lobby hallway. Students will participate in advertising, bookkeeping, new product research, inventory control, and providing customer sales and service. In addition, snacks and other items are sold Thursday afternoons. The store is open Tuesday and Thursday mornings. This club meets weekly and is limited to 8-10 students per week, however, ATTENDANCE EACH WEEK IS NOT REQUIRED. If you enjoy working with people, money, and new products, this club’s for you! Weeks: 1 – 5 Advisor: Mrs. Hey Getting Set for Success Club: Wouldn’t it be great to complete ALL of your school work and homework ahead of time? Just think of how good it would feel, to know that your evening will not be spent on homework completion! Imagine having time at the end of the day to prepare for quizzes and tests. Could you benefit from some amazing strategies that could help with organizing your school to work? Take advantage of this wonderful opportunity and join the Getting Set for Success Club. Weeks: 1 – 5 (Students may sign up for a maximum of three weeks, unless they get permission from Mrs. Burkhardt to attend for more than three weeks) Advisor: Mrs. Burkhardt Green Club: This club is hands-on. You will learn how to improve the environment inside and out! Activities will include such things as recycling, composting (with worms!), gardening, green house work, walks, snow studies and sculptures, birding and track identification. Week 1: Nature Walk Club – Take a stroll around the school grounds in every kind of weather, identifying seasonal signs. Week 2: Recycling Club – Participate in activities that will increase the amount of paper that is recycled in the middle school. Members must be willing to collect recycling outside of club meeting days. Week 3: Everything Birds – Get to know them by sight and song, feed them, count them, etc. We may participate in project Feeder Watch. Week 4: Nature Movie Club – Relax, watch, and eat popcorn! Week 5: Greenhouse Club – Plant and care for flower and vegetable plants. Must be willing to water plants outside of meeting days. Advisor: Mrs. Arsenault Kickball Club: If you want to relive your glory days with Mr. Reed, join the Kickball Krazies! Come prepared to play in the gym, or – if the weather is nice – outside! All grades are welcome to join, but there is a 40 student maximum. Weeks: 1, 3, 5 Advisors: Mrs. Frey and Mrs. Falsone Teamwork: Solve the Problem! This team will play a variety of games and work on creative activities where all participants work together so the whole group can win! Develop key skills in teamwork and cooperation… while having lots of fun!! This club is limited to 15 members. Weeks: 5 Advisor: Mrs. VanWely Book Worms: Do you crave 30 minutes of uninterrupted, quiet reading time? Do you want to hear about great books recommended by other students? This club is limited to 15 dedicated readers who can remember to bring their books (or e-readers) to club on Weeks 1 and 3. Shhh…let me read; I’m right at the good part. Weeks: 1 and 3 Advisor: Mrs. VanWely Chillax Club: Tired from a long day of school? Want to hang out with friends and just relax? Join the Chillax Club and we’ll have an easy-going time sittin’ around. Maybe we’ll throw on a movie or watch funny cat videos and YouTube. You can sit around and read quietly or just talk with friends. Want to bring a board game? Go for it! This is our time to unwind. Weeks: 2 and 4 Advisor: Mr. Burkett Music Club: Do you love listening to music? Do you love being introduced to new music? Join Music Club and we will explore songs from all over the world and all throughout history. Learn more about fascinating topics like the history of rock and roll. Recommend a song for us to play or dance to your favorite tune. Play an instrument? Bring it in! Weeks: 1, 3, 5 Advisor: Mr. Burkett Calling All Card Lovers... Card Sharks Club: Do you enjoy playing Euchre, Hearts, Golf, Rummy, etc.? How about putting your skills to the test in some friendly competition? Do you think you could beat Mrs. Wahl? If you think you have what it takes to be a RJMS Euchre champion, join Card Sharks Club and show us what you've got!!!! Weeks: 1-4 Advisor: Mrs. Wahl Limit: 16 students Newspaper Club: You will work with advisor to complete RJMS Newspaper, celebrating all the great things about our school, informing us of the things we may not know, and commenting on the hot topics of the day! Weeks: Meets throughout the week (Not on Club Thursday) Advisor: Mrs. VanWely Robotics Club: Explore the current and future use of automation technology. The students will receive a comprehensive overview of robotic systems and the subsystems that comprise them. This includes utilizing a variety of electric motors, sensors, and pneumatic cylinders which are given commands by a microcontroller using both user input and a variety of programming languages. This team competes in the For Inspiration & Recognition of Science & Technology (FIRST) Robotics Competition which includes a six-week build season throughout January and February, followed by a regional competition at RIT. Although the competitive season is only a few short months, the team meets September through June during 9th period and on various weekday evenings. Weeks: 1-5 (and after school on days other than Club Thursdays) Advisor: Mr. Sarazyn Basketball Club: Shoot hoops, practice dribbling, work on basketball moves, practice foul shots, and master the 3 point shot! Join this club to work on your basketball skills! Play 1 on 1, Play 3 on 3, Horse, and Knock-out and more! Limit: 5 boys and 5 girls per grade level Weeks: 1, 3, 5 Advisor: Mrs. Powers Homework Club: Tired of bringing a lot of homework home? Do you sometimes need help with it? Why not join homework club to complete your homework with some help? You can use this time to study for upcoming tests and quizzes too. Receive help from your advisor and volunteers or complete your work on your own –and watch your grades improve! Weeks 2, 4 Advisor: Mrs. Powers Coloring/Doodling Club: For those who like to express themselves through drawing and coloring. We will supply the paper and supplies, you supply the imagination! Work alone or in small groups! Sign up for any of the 5 weeks. Weeks: 1-5 Advisor: Mrs. Burns 7th Grade Band Club: Open to graders who were not able to get band in their schedule this year. It will meet every Club Day (every Thursday 9th period). If you sign up for this club, you will also be placed in a weekly lesson group. 7th Weeks: 1-5 Advisor: Mr. Wight
