Following is the format of a retail shop, ‘The Bazaar of Isfahan’• As a Retail shop it consists of various functions like Counters and products
like, medicines, gifts, vegetables, etc.
•Various shapes/formats have been used in the retail shop to form outlets for
such functions/products
• Each shape has its own characteristics, advantages and disadvantages
• The formats in red are stable and cant be changed
• There are 3 pillars in the retail shop which are marked by a circle
• The Rectangular formats with, Refrigerated Products and Medical
store cant be changed or moved, however the products sold within
them can be changed
• The information about the designs of the shapes/formats is provided in the
following slides
• No other shapes can be used in the shop apart from the ones explained in
the following slides

Problem Statement in the retail shop, ‘The Bazaar of Isfahan’
The shop is running through losses and the management thinks that
it is because of the faulty retail format. You have to change the retail
format and come up with a new format satisfying the following
conditions:
• Only the 6 types of shapes/formats explained in the following slides
can be used
• There is no restriction on the size of a particular format/shape you
want to use, however the size of the Retail shop as a whole cannot be
changed
• There are no restrictions on the number of formats/shapes of a
particular type you want to use
• The shapes marked in red and their placement in the shop (as
shown in the basic layout) cannot be changed/moved, however you
can change the product sold in that format. For E.g., The rectangle
format in which medical store is operated at present cannot be
changed or moved but you can operate it as a store other than a
