Reese Physical Education Rules, Procedures, and Expectations Exercise Be Healthy Have Fun PE Daily Procedures 1. 2. 3. 4. Girls will line up in the locker room hallway. 5. Participate in daily exercises. Participate in daily game and/or activity. Change back into school clothes. Line back up in the hallway and wait for dismissal. 10. On Mondays, we will go outside if the weather and your behavior permits. You do not have to dress out on this day. PE Clothing • Changing clothes in PE is very important for many reasons. • Proper fitness attire allows for safety, freedom of movement, better personal hygiene, as well as not having to worry about your school clothes becoming dirty or damaged. PE Clothing (cont.) • You must change your shirt and pants at the beginning and ending of each day in PE class. • During PE class your body will sweat. Sweat has bacteria which can spread illness and disease as well as produce body odor. PE Clothing (cont.) • A t-shirt, sweatshirt, or sweat jacket is required. • When arms are raised, skin around midriff and lower back area must not be exposed. • Straps of less than two inches wide must not be worn. • Undergarments must not show. PE Clothing (cont.) • Gym shorts or sweat pants are required. • Khaki and blue jean shorts are not permitted due to pockets, belts, and belt loops being safety hazards and interfering with physical activity. • Garments such as bicycle pants, aerobic outfits, and body pants are prohibited. • Unhemmed shorts, frayed cut-offs, and shortshorts are not permitted. • An inseam length of at least 4 inches is required. Measure the inseam with a ruler. PE Clothing (cont.) • Tennis shoes and socks must be worn. • Backless and sandal type tennis shoes are inappropriate. No Crocks or Sperry’s allowed. PE Clothing (cont.) • A point will be deducted from a student whose shoes are not laced tightly so that the shoes flip flop or come off. PE Clothing (cont.) • Sunglasses, hats or other head coverings are for outside wear only unless required for documented health or religious reasons. PE Clothing (cont.) • Jewelry should be removed while you are in the dressing room (not after you come out and sit down-checks will be given). • Metal or loose fitting watches are not allowed. Sports watches are OK. • Long or hoop earrings and long necklaces are not allowed. Tight necklaces and stud earrings are OK. • No rings of any kind should be worn during PE class. PE Clothes For Sale • You may order and purchase Physical Education t-shirts and shorts at the beginning of each nine weeks. • $10 for each or $20 for the out fit. Hand Signals • Raised hand = Be quiet for instructions • Point at watch = We’re out of class time Grading Policy • Your grade is based on changing clothes and participating in PE class. • You will have 20 participation grades in PE. You will be given a 100 for each daily grade that is recorded. • You will have 5 points deducted from your grade for each time you don’t change clothes and participate in PE class. • If a child has 7 or more unexcused dress cuts, the student will be unable to pass for that grading period. • After 3 dress cuts, your parents will be contacted to notify them of your nonparticipation. Sick Excuse Notes • If you sit out from PE when you are sick, you will not get a zero if you bring a note from your parent or guardian. • You may turn in your sick excuse note the day after you sit out of PE. • After three days of sick excuse note(s), a doctor’s note is required in order to be excused from participation. Doctor’s Notes • A written excuse with a doctor’s signature is required in order to be excused from participation if a student is to be excused for more than three days. • The doctor’s note should include what activities the child can and cannot participate in. Behavior Policy • Students are expected to follow all school rules. • Points will be deducted if guidelines and school rules are broken. • Severe misbehavior such as fighting, disrespect, and refusing to follow directions will result in calls to parents or direct referral to the office. • We follow the same point system as your other classes, but our points will be given to your homeroom teacher to combine with their’s. Behavior Policy (cont.) Group Consequences • Coach Lawson and Coach Vaughn expect you to be quiet when they are instructing the group. • Excessive talking by the class will result in time out for the entire class for at least 5 minutes. • The teacher(s) will warn the class by holding up an arm and saying “Strike one, strike two, strike three.” • 1st 3 strikes= 5 min. time out • 2nd 3 strikes= 10 min. time out or no activity for the day Behavior Policy (cont.) Undesired Behaviors • No touching PE equipment before or after activity • No horseplay, play hitting, or rough play • Students are not allowed on the stage, in front of the stairs, or near the back doors unless instructed to do so by your gym teacher. Behavior Policy (cont.) Undesired Behaviors • No more than two students at the water fountain at a time. There are 2 water fountains: 1 for the girls and 1 for the boys. You will form a line at the corner and rotate 1 boy and 1 girls to get water. • No going into the locker room or bathroom during class, the doors will be locked. • Students are not allowed to use the phone unless you have permission by your gym teacher. Behavior Policy (cont.) Undesired Behaviors • Coach Vaughn, Lawson, Martin, & Reese will stand in the locker rooms or beside the locker rooms while you change clothes everyday. Food • No chips, candy, drinks, or gum is allowed in the gym,weight room & locker room. A point will be deducted each time you are caught with gum in the gym. Keep the Gym and Locker Rooms Clean • • • • Please, Please, Please … Pick up your trash. Flush the toilets. Let the coaches know if toilet paper is needed. Bring it to the attention of the coaches if the class before yours left a big mess. Locker Room • Do not change clothes in the bathroom stalls or showers. • The stalls are to only be used by those people who need to use the toilet. • Points will be deducted for students who ignore this rule. Locker Room • The locker room will be locked after dressing. • Stealing is sometimes a problem.If you do bring valuables, you will be responsible for them! • Do not leave any of your things in the locker room after your class. Sportsmanship • You are expected to show good sportsmanship at all times in Physical Education class. • This can be difficult sometimes during many of the competitive games that we play. • Treat others like you would like to be treated. Sportsmanship (cont.) • Do NOT be rude to others when they mess up. • DO encourage them in a nice way to do better next time. • Do NOT get angry when someone bumps into you. • DO apologize when you know that you have bumped into someone else. Sportsmanship (cont.) • Do NOT rub it in when others lose. • DO tell the losing team that they played a good game. Winning is not everything, the effort to win is.
