Geraine team takes
top slo-hall honors

Majors-American All-Stars - On July 24 the American League AllStar Team travelled to Center Moriches to meet the Center Moriches
All "Stars . The American League team won 13-1 behind the nine
strikeout , four-hitter performance of John Birdoff . Outstanding hitting
was supp lied by Rene Pina , Chris Maty as and Richie Cieslak who hit a
home run over the left field fence. The All-Star team would like to
thank Bob Frank and Grover Tomlinson who umpired for the
organization and did an outstanding job.
American League faced the Bellport All-Stars at Hallock Park. The
American League All-Stars defeated Bell port 5-3 behind the 11 strike
out , two-nit pitching of Joseph Greco , who again demonstrated his
outstanding ability. Key hits were supplied by Darin D'Ambrosio ,
Rene Pina , Joseph Greco and Chris Matyas. The American League
team would like to thank the following men who volunteered to umpire : Carl Gustafson , Bob Frank, Grover Tomlinson and Sam Perry .
We would also like to thank the parents for the tremendous turnout and
support , the Ladies Auxiliary for their hard work and Mr . and Mrs.
Wassmer for their dedication and hard work.
On July 29 the American League All-Star team was defeated at a
game played on the North Shore Held by a fine team from MattituckCutchogue 6-1 for the District 36 championship. John Birdoff pitched a
fine hitter , had two base hits and struck out eight tor the American
League team . Congratulations to the Mattituck-Cutchogue All-Star
team. Frank Miglino played an outstanding defensive game with two
sparkling defensive plays. Our thanks to the North Shore organization
for their hospitality and in particular Ralph Corradi , tournament
director . We also appreciate the excellent umpiring furnished by Mr.
Beck's crew .
On July 30 the American League All-Stars played the National
League All-Stars in the Frank Frascogna Memorial Game. The
American League team defeated the National League 6-3 in a game
which demonstrated what Little-League baseball should be for the
players, umpires , coaches , parents , officers and friends. The game
was exciting, sportsmanship was exemplified and timely hitting and
outstanding defensive plays were made by both teams.
For the American League team the hits were provided by Chris
Matyas , Rene Pina , Darin D'Ambrosio and Frank Miglino. Outstanding defensive plays were turned in by Frank Miglino and Rene
Pina.
For the National League team key hits were supplied by Wayne
Klatt who went two for three , John Ostnck and James Farley. Outstanding defensive plays were turned in by Sarge Surdi and Joe
Eckstein. Wayne Klatt also pitched two scoreless innings for the
National League team. The winning pitcher was Joseph Greco who
relieved Alan Frascogna in the fourth inning and culminated his Little
League career with eight strikeouts in three innings.
The American League All-Star coaching staff would like to thank the
players on the team for their dedication , hard work and sportsmanship. Special thanks must be given to umpires Bob Frank ,
Grover Tomlinson , Carl Gustafson , Pat D'Ambrosio , Richard Klein
and Sam Perry . Our coaching staff would also like to thank Joseph
Fazarro who dedicated his time to the All-Star pitching staff . In
closing, the next time we hear the umpire say "Play Ball" will be May
1979. Our organization needs dedicated people. Meetings are held the
third Tuesday of every month at the Elks Club in Patchogue.
American League Minor : The American League Minor All-Stars
managed by Charlie Albert and Nick Gamma were invited to play m
Elmont against their minor All-Star team for an exhibition game on
July 28.
Arnold Leap threw the ball all the way from rightfield to Joe
Gamma at home plate to get the lead man out . In the top of the sixth
Arnold Leap hit a double to bring in two men tieing the score at six-all.
Even though Elmont won at 7-6 an excellent game was played by the
entire team.

of Bellport , was selected as
one of 48 top sailors from
all over the country
by
the United States Olympic
Yachting Committee's Development Clinics at Lake
Tahoe , Calif.
He attended a session July 23
through July 28. This is the
second year that sailors in the
non-Olympic classes have been
invited to this clinic.
Daniel sails Sunfish and won
tha Long Island Championship
this spring.
Last year Joel Furman was
invited to attend these classes .
He was the 1977 World Champion
Sunfish sailor .
