Conference goal. Cognitive linguistics, which studies the relation between language and the
mind, is a part of cognitive science – an interdisciplinary paradigm exploring the brain/mind of
humans and animals as a natural mechanism for information processing. Therefore, cognitive
linguistic studies may benefit from applying the achievements of allied disciplines. The conference
aims to introduce linguists to such achievements, as well as to introduce specialists in other fields
to the research areas and insights of cognitive linguistics.
The important results obtained by recent cognitive linguistic inquiries are exposure of
conceptual structures that arrange various meanings and forms of language / speech, and
application of these structures in compiling thesaurus dictionaries for particular fields, in
developing cognitively grounded methods of teaching foreign languages, in analyzing socially
relevant political and cultural narratives, in describing the role of language in the information
(consciental) war, etc. One of the directions in cognitive linguistic research is examination of
neuropsychological foundations of multilingualism, which is important for developing a feasible
language policy. The above themes are the highlights of both linguistics and other disciplines –
psychology, pedagogy, neuroscience, philosophy, anthropology, culture studies, literary studies,
political science, sociology, systems theory, artificial intelligence theory, and knowledge
engineering. Ukrainian scholars who do their research in these fields tend to work in relatively
autonomous professional communities, while their collaboration can contribute to effective
solution of the shared problems.
Conference panels:
 MIND – LANGUAGE: conceptual structures in language and speech (linguistics, psychology,
anthropology, culture studies, literary studies, philosophy, sociology, systems theory).
 LANGUAGE – MIND: language in construing the world image (linguistics, psychology,
culture studies, literary studies, philosophy, political science, sociology).
 Multilingualism: cognitive factors (linguistics, neuroscience, psychology, sociology, political
science).
 Cognitive foundations of teaching languages (linguistics, methods of teaching languages,
psychology, pedagogy).
 Language and culture as ideological tools (linguistics, psychology, literary studies, culture
studies, political science).
 Language and information technologies (linguistics, systems theory, knowledge engineering).
The conference invites linguists and researchers in other fields. The papers are expected to
discuss problems which require an interdisciplinary approach to their solution.
Working languages: English, Ukrainian, and Russian.
