Codices were one of our most fun home learning tasks.

We get a new planner each
Monday. We take the
responsibility to give them
in at the end of each day. We
put a ‘hot cross bun’ on a
piece of work which is
finished and has been
handed in. A hot cross bun is
a circle with a cross through
it.
Instead of having set times to do
different subjects, we have a time in
the day for planner work. This is
when we have a responsibility to
choose which activities to do and
get on with them. The teachers
normally expect us to hand in a
piece of work everyday.
HOT CROSS BUN
WEEK:6
Name: Ellie
Moffatt.
Codices were one of
our most fun home
learning tasks.
Nearly all of our work is given to us
after an input with a guide line.
This is a power point on how to make a cup
of tea. This piece of work is an instructional
text and a piece of ICT. We did this in pairs.
We had to insert an action button, hyperlink
and a sound we’d recorded ourselves.
The ICT cup of tea activity lasted a long time because
first we had to do a flow chart on paper about
anything we wanted to make. We then had to do the
power point.
Lots of our work is cross curricular.
Our Aztec posters were a cross
between English, History and Art.
We learn different skills from each
other by working in groups. Being
an independent learner means that
we as a school/team achieve a lot
more.
One of our other tasks last term was to do a
slide on a famous person for Black History
Month.
Here we have an example of one.
We sometimes work in pairs or in groups or
on our own. This gives us an opportunity to
learn more about our classmates/friends.
The teachers help us a great deal. It is like riding a
bike. They take your stabilisers off and if you get
stuck they put them on again. It goes on like that
until you can ride freely.
Teachers at this school encourage us
to do our best especially when we get
confuddled.
They help us through difficult stages
and always make the lessons
thoroughly entertaining-especially in
Science!
Why is independent learning so
important?
Independent learning is essentially important
because you can learn more skills and
achieve your goals.
It is good to work with different people who
have a variety of different abilities. This way
you can achieve more.
As a school we believe that learning should
be fun and enjoyable. That way you can
learn more if you’re enjoying it.
If you work with
different people you
can learn more than
only working with
your best friend. That
is why we do some
work with partners or
in groups.
Independent learning
is also important
because it gets Year 6
ready for secondary
school.
