Small Talk/Warm up (5 Minutes) 2. Writing/Drawing (10 Minutes) Start a conversation regarding latest news in Taiwan Hand out small pieces of colored paper, and ask each student to take 3 with different colors Ask students to write down 3 things/stuffs/people…they would like to keep for the rest of their life. Put students as pairs 3. First Round of Choices Each student needs to persuade his/her partner to drop one thing (5 Minutes) Instructor monitors the conversations in class and collects dropped things 4. Video Showing (10 Minutes) Show video “How would you respond to impossible choices” to the class Ask the class questions on these participants in the video Summarize the video and review the options offered in the video 5. Second Round of Choices (5 Minutes) Students are asked to make an impossible choice, they must drop another item and give it to the instructor 6. List Making (10 Minutes) Students discuss with group members, make a list of their final choices, and provide reasons behind their choices 7. Homework Guideline (5 Minutes) Instructor shows the website for this week’s homework – blog post 8. (Extend Class) Closely analyze a latest news report on refugees, introduce new works and review the grammar patterns in the following class
