WB 28.9.15 This week

Our topic for this half term is ‘Go, go gadget!’
This week our learning has been focused on ...
In Numeracy
This week the class have continued
to develop their skills with addition
and then moved to learning about
subtraction. The children learned
in reception the skill of counting on
and back for calculations. Eg.
With the sentence 12 + 3 = ? They
start by saying 12, hold up three
fingers and count on using the
fingers, 13, 14, 15. A great game
to help with this skill is at

Literacy
This week the children have started
the unit of instructions. They have
used this text format to make a
moving robot picture, playdough,
various models and a scarecrow
plate model. They are beginning to
understand that this type of text
uses bossy language, has a series of
steps, has time connectives and a
list of ingredients or ‘you will need.’

RE
For two days this week the children
have been learning about why
Christians celebrate harvest. They
have completed some lovely activities
including; decorating fruit, writing
thank you sentences, and comparing
farming gadgets from the past.
Design and Technology
This week the children have continued to
develop their understanding of how to
make a picture move. They began by
creating a split pin robot, which was a
great link to the literacy unit of following
instructions. Then the class continued by
making a slider picture of a vehicle moving
across a landscape. I will place a few of
their designs on the Year 1 page on the
school website so you can see their
success.
Weekly challenge
This week your child has a ‘pass the football’ sheet in their books. They have a
number they need to make by matching two shirts and numbers. It would help them
if they had a resource to help them such as toy cars, small balls, pieces of pasta.
This will help to add them two numbers together to make either 5 or 10. When
they work out which of the numbers together make the number then they should
draw a line from one of the shirts to the other.
