6.0 SPECIFIC STANDARDS
6.1
Tenderer’s must inform the Client in writing as to the unavailability of any items within
time allowed to complete the project, so that an alternative can be sourced and
approved.
6.2
Rack Room
The contractor should familiarise themselves with the specification for the proposed
rack room and should identify any issues that may impede the effective installation,
day to day running and maintenance of the equipment.
In particular, the contractor should familiarise themselves with the proposed method
of cooling for each rack room based on the current electro mechanical designs. The
contractor should identify any issues with any consultant designs based on the current
system requirement and keep the consultant team updated on any additional power
consumption or electrical loading increases based on all future alteration to the
specification
The contractor should also consider the size of the racks and the size of the room
available and highlight any issues this may give rise to.
The following paragraphs describe conventions that shall be adhered to during the
design, fabrication, and installation of equipment racks. Deviation from these
performance specifications may be required in certain special circumstances, These
cases shall be discussed with the consultant on an individual basis as required.
a)
Full-height equipment racks shall have 47 rack units available for mounting of
equipment. All racks shall be full height unless other wise specified by the
consultants. All equipment racks shall be selected for mounting 19 inch wide
equipment.
b)
Rack mount blank or vent panels shall be installed in all open positions on the
front rack rail. These panels shall be shown on the rack assembly drawings.
Blanks may generally be used to separate equipment into logical groups.
Vents shall be used to provide ventilation paths for hot air in the vicinity of
thermally sensitive devices.
c)
All devices and panels shall be installed into the equipment racks using 10-32
x 3/4 inch, black, truss head, Phillips rack screws with a nylon washer. All
mounting holes provided on rack mounted equipment shall be utilised.

700mm maintained between rack front and rear surfaces, and all other
devices or obstructions. Racks may be placed with one side near a wall but
must remain serviceable and accessible.
f)
Equipment shall be mounted in the racks in a logical order. Generally signal
flow should move from the top of the rack to the bottom. Heavier equipment
shall be mounted in the lower portion to ensure that the assembly is not top
heavy. Frequently used equipment shall be mounted at the optimal elevation
for operator use. Video monitors shall be mounted at an optimal view angle
and elevation.
g)
Sufficient rear support shall be provided for equipment to ensure that no
damage occurs during transit. Rear support sufficient to prevent long-term
sagging or settling of equipment chassis shall be permanently installed in
racks. Metals brackets or braces are preferred. Rear support materials shall
meet all applicable fire codes.
h)
The AV System shall permit rear access to rack mounted equipment
at all times. Equipment or panels mounted to the rear rack rails shall
be positioned to prevent obstruction of access to equipment mounted
to the front rack rails.

strips. The power conductors of the distribution strips shall be brought to a
Power Junction Box attached to the inside of the rack enclosure. The
assembled rack internal power strips shall conform to approved testing
laboratory specifications. Each circuit shall consist of a line conductor, a
dedicated neutral conductor, and a dedicated insulated equipment grounding
conductor of equal current-carrying capacity.
k)
Each AV System equipment rack shall contain an isolated ground bus bar
(Rack Ground). The Rack Ground shall be the termination point for all
isolated equipment grounding conductors coming from the Technical Power
Panel in addition to the following:
i
Equipment having no other path to ground (e-g., patchbays, passive
devices) shall be connected to the Rack Ground with a green,
insulated copper wire. This conductor shall be a minimum of 12
gauge.
ii
Equipment rack frames shall be connected to the Rack Ground with a
green, insulated copper wire. This wire shall be a minimum of 8
gauge. This wire shall be attached to a permanent part of the rack
frame (not a rail, door, or other removable part). The connection
point shall be free of paint or other surface treatments. The
connection shall be made to bare metal. The bonding surface shall
be treated with an electrically conductive oxidation preventing grease.
Exposed metal shall be protected from corrosion after the connection
is complete.
The AV System equipment racks shall be isolated from building steel,
cable trays, electrical conduit, and any other object or device that can
compromise the isolated ground system. The equipment racks shall
be located such that rack doors cannot touch any electrically
conductive object that is not part of the Technical Power ground. All
Page 13
conduits entering the equipment racks shall be isolated from the
enclosure itself with an insulation fitting.
n) All rack-mounted equipment shall be powered from the power distribution strips in
the racks. Equipment with two prong power cords shall also have a 12 gauge (1 0
MM2), green copper wire connected from the chassis to the Rack Ground. Under
no circumstances shall the ground prong of a three-prong of a three-prong power
cord be removed.
NB/ The Rack room requirements may be subject to change. The client is awaiting
confirmation of final design specification from the base-build design team. Any installation by
the contractor should conform to the standards as set out by the base-build design team.

The Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) shall encompass testing, demonstration, and all
necessary adjustments to the Audio Visual System. All powered electronic devices
shall be “burned in.” The system shall be connected to AC power and shall remain
fully powered in a quiescent state for a minimum of 48 hours. After the burn-in
period, all system electronic devices shall be tested for proper operation. All
equipment supplied as part of the Audio Visual supply package will be tested and
certificated as working prior to delivery.
b)
The contractor shall perform a Site Acceptance Test (SAT). The Site
Acceptance Test shall verify the acceptability of both individual or group
equipment functions, capabilities and performance characteristics, as well as,
critical functions and operations of the integrated systems. Individual, group
and integrated functionality may be tested as equipment and systems become
available and do not necessarily require sequential ordering, as long as the
software and hardware configurations of any particular test are not changed
subsequent to the test. Debugging is expected and allowed. Only portions
failing the test need to be re-tested.
c)
A Fault Test shall performed by creating a fault or failure by mechanical,
electrical, software, or other means. This should activate a safety device,
circuit, or software reaction. This test shall verify the proper safety-critical
reaction of the Audio Visual System.
d)
All electronic equipment shall be connected to establish full operation system
status. All audio power amplifiers shall be driven into “dummy loads”
representing the intended operating nominal load impedance, It is not
necessary to connect speakers to all amplifier outputs simultaneously during
that FAT. The Audio Visual System shall be tested for three standard days.
e)
After the three standard test days have been completed, one loudspeaker
system of each type used in the Audio Visual System shall be connected to
every amplifier output intended to drive that loudspeaker system type to verify
acoustical output sufficiency.
f)
The contractor should allow for in their costs for any attendance required to
assist the media provider during the installation of the media.
Warranty
Contractor agrees to comply with the following warranty requirements as they apply to any
contract that is awarded to Contractor based on its response to this bid request.

or deficiencies in design, engineering, workmanship, and material for a period
of one (1) year from the date of the practical completion.
b)
The purchase price includes a one (1) year parts and labour warranty by
Contractor on all non-consumable items. Where the manufacturer's warranty
exceeds one year, this warranty will be passed on to the client for the full term
of such warranties. Consumable items (such as projector lamps, which
characteristically carry a manufacturer's warranty of less than one year) will
retain the manufacturer's warranty for the full term of this manufacturer's
warranty. Normal wear items (such as belts, etc. which have a life expectancy
Page 15
of less than one year and/or which carry no manufacturer's warranty) are
excluded from Contractor’s warranty.
a)
The Contractor’s warranty does not cover malfunction in any component
caused by improper occurrences or actions taken after final acceptance
including misuse, abuse, neglect, improper adjustment, modifications,
alterations, tampering, disconnection and improper or inadequate
maintenance, or malfunctions resulting by adjustment, service or maintenance
by unqualified personnel except as caused by errors or omissions in training.
