RULES AND REGULATIONS
ENTER THE STAGE 2016
SUBMISSION RULES
1. Enter The Stage entries OPEN from Sunday 1st May 2016 and close on Wednesday 25th May
2016. NO late entries will be accepted.
2. Entries must be submitted to email address [email protected]

4. Age Limits must be of age as at 31st December 2016. Winners may be asked to produce birth
certificate.
5. Competitors can enter the competition through their Dance School or individual entry.
6. When submitting an entry form, all competitors are agreeing to all the rules outlined below.
7. Competitors must have the permission of the choreography to perform their routine.
8. Enter The Stage is open to both Amateur and Professional Dancers.
9. No entries will be processed until all forms are completed; including current legal or public
liability insurance policy, Working with Children (Director and teaching staff) and A.P.R.A
license number.
10. Running Program will be sent to Studio Owner by Wednesday 1st June 2016.
You will have 48 hours to submit any errors or changes.
11. The event organisers at ‘Enter the Stage’ may cancel or combine sections for which less than
three entries are received.
12. All submission made by close of nominations must be paid in full.

We remind all involved in ‘Enter the Stage’ competition bad sportsmanship either in the
auditorium, backstage or in the foyer, venue will not be tolerated at any time. Any competitor
breeching this rule will be asked to leave the venue/building. Enter The Stage is a friendly
competition which gives dancers the opportunity to perform in a positive and friendly atmosphere,
showcasing their talent in the industry.
Enter The Stage is a privately run competition and will be operated as directors intend. The
management and committee hold the rights to refuse entry to any person/s or entrants whom they
deem could jeopardize the purpose and environment of the competitions.
Unprofessional behaviour will not be tolerated in any way and may result in immediate
disqualification and ban from the competitions.
RULES OF CONDUCT
We expect the following from all Competitors and Studio Owners.
TREAT OTHERS WITH RESPECT
Competitors will not abuse, stalk, harass or threaten others. I will not make offensive comments
related to gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearances, body size, race, or religion. I
will not disrupt other people or the event and I will not make inappropriate physical contact.
KEEP IT G-RATED AND BE MINDFUL OF LANGUAGE, CREATE A FAMILY FRIENDLY
ENVIROMENT
Competitors will not swear or make sexist, racist, or other exclusionary jokes which may be offensive
to those around me. I will behave in a way that is suitable for anyone to view, including young
children.
RESPECT THE VENUE AND EQUIPMENT
Competitors will keep the venue clean and tidy and use the rubbish and recycling bins as
appropriate. I will let the organisers know if there are any issues.
FOLLOW THE COMPETITION RULES
Competitors will only use authorised materials that I have the right to use and release and will not
submit any projects which are potentially libellous, false, defamatory or overtly political or contains
material which is potentially confidential, commercially sensitive, or which would cause personal
distress or loss. I will check at any stage, if unclear, competition rules.
LOOK AFTER MYSELF AND OTHERS
Competitors will remember that we are all here to perform and watch performances, not party. If I am
under 18, I will ensure my parent/guardian is with me whenever I am at the venue, and if I am the
parent/guardian of the performer under 18, I will ensure I keep an eye on them. If I am feeling
uncomfortable, am being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any

concerns, I will immediately contact Enter the Stage organisers.
PERFORMANCE RULES
1. Failure to adhere to Rules and Regulations for ‘Enter the Stage’ may involve disqualification
and/or withholding of prizes/awards.
2. NO competitor may perform the same item twice during the competition.
3. Competitors who do not appear when number is called may perform at end of section, but
may or may not receive adjudication, depending on circumstances.
4. Competitors whose name/s are omitted from the programme for any reason will be required to
appear at the end of the section.
5. NO performer may appear twice in any section unless event organisers of ‘Enter the Stage’
has combined age groups for (Troupes ONLY).
6. No substituting of any entry including Troupes.
7. All performers who make ‘Dance Off’ for Champion Dancer from each age category must
perform the identical dance in all heats to qualify. Competitors competing must of placed 1 st in
a minimum of one solo to compete. Competitors that won in more than one genre may choose
the solo they wish to perform. Event organisers must be instructed prior to Gala evening at
5.30pm the solo they will be performing along with music.
8. If a competitor stops during a performance they may repeat the performance at end of
section, however they will not be eligible for placing.
9. No prompting backstage allowed.
10. Only Competitors and Teachers, with teacher’s passes are allowed back stage at ALL TIMES.
11. ALL competitors perform in ‘Enter the Stage’ at their own risk. ‘Enter the Stage’ or its
Directors, event staff and staff will not be responsible for the loss of, or damage of, to any
competitor’s or audience property.
12. Time limits will be enforced.
Competitors who exceed time limits will receive a 5 point deduction from their score.
The time of the Solo/Duo/Trio/Troupe will be taken from the start of the music or the
appearance of the competitor/Troupe, whichever occurs first, until the competitor leaves the
stage or the fall of the curtain for Troupes ONLY
13. Music with tap sounds will not be permitted in any tap dance including Troupes.
14. A maximum of 3 acro tricks can be performed in a NON acrobatic routine.
15. All entry fees are non-refundable, unless a section isn’t running due to lack of entries.
Refunds will be forwarded to the dance teacher entering those candidates.
16. Competitors Name or Dance Studio MUST NOT be on any item of clothing during
performance.

17. Sportsman like behaviour is to be maintained throughout the competition.
18. The recording of performances is not permitted in the theatre at any time. No private or
unauthorised video, sound or camera equipment is to be brought or used in the theatre.
Contravention of this condition will result in being asked to leave the building.
19. Silence must be maintained by the audience and competitors watching from side stage, at all
times during a performance. Anyone offending in this respect may be excluded from the
competition or asked to leave the building.
20. Please be aware that our official photographer for these competitions reserves the right to
photograph all performances as well as still shots in the foyer.
21. Mobile phones can be brought into the Auditorium / backstage areas on silent mode only.
NO pictures may be taken backstage, in change rooms or toilet area.
22. Teachers/Group Leaders are responsible for ensuring competitors dressing rooms are kept
clear and tidy at all times, the noise level is kept to a minimum, and only those necessary in
these areas or backstage.
23. Only performers and group leaders are allowed in the competitor rooms. Dressing rooms must
be left in an ‘as new’ condition.
24. Competitors are to change behind the secured off areas only and not in competitor rooms.
25. Competitors are not to use toilets for changing rooms or for applying makeup.
AGE CATEGORIES
26. Entrant’s age must be as at 31st December of current year. This includes all troupe
participants. Proof of age may be required.
27. In Duo’s, Trios and Troupe entries, Entrants are placed in the category determined by the
eldest entrant’s age within the group.
28. If insufficient entries are received for any one section they will be merged with the age group
above.
29. No competitor can enter into a higher age group in solo sections.

31. Time Limits of the Solo/Duo/Trio will be taken from the start of the music or the appearance of
the competitor/Troupe, whichever occurs first, until the competitor leaves the stage or the fall
of the curtain for Troupes ONLY
32. The minimum performance time for any Solo, Duo/Trio routine is 2 minutes.

ENTRANCE FEES
33. All Competitors will be required to pay a $15.00 Registration fee. This will allow FREE entry
into auditorium to view any session for the duration of the competition.
34. If a competitor loses or forgets their pass they must purchase a session ticket to watch.
35. Teachers with Teachers passes will have free access to view any session for the duration of
the competition.

AJUDICATION
38. Enter the Stage will provide a judging panel of three professionals in their area of expertise.
Any competitor, relative of a competitor or teacher who approaches an adjudicator before,
during or after the competition will result in the competitor being disqualified immediately.
39. The decision of the ‘Enter the Stage’ adjudicators is FINAL.
40. Placing will be awarded at the end of each session.
MUSIC AND SOUND
41. Music for the competition will ONLY be accepted on Compact Disc. ALL candidates are
personally responsible to have a back-up copy.
42. The competitor track is the ONLY track allowed on the disc.
43. C.D’s must not have more than a two second lead-in.
44. Music must be handed to ‘Music Collection Desk’ 30 mins prior to the session
commencement.
45. ‘Enter the Stage’ management will not take responsibility for loss of music
46. If the music stops during an item that is caused by equipment or staff member then the
performer will be able to perform at end of session.

ARRIVAL TIME
48. A Competitor/Teacher must arrive at least 30 mins prior to the beginning of the session in
which they are performing. Competitors/Teacher must hand in music and confirm to
competitors station;

49. Individual Competitors and Dance school Directors/Teacher will have entrant packs and
singular entries to pick up all studio requirements, including backstage passes from the
competitor’s station.
50. The competitor’s station desk closes 15 minutes prior to start of each session. Late arrivals
will not be accepted.

PROPS
51. Competitors must not use Glitter, real foliage, water, real flames, fruit, candles, vegetables,
straw, cellophane props on stage or costumes. This can leave the floor slippery, unclean and
unsafe.
52. Props can be set up backstage prior to the section and must be removed from back stage on
completion of section.
53. Props that can could cause possible harm to the floor. All props must have proper rubber/felt
stoppers if there is potential to harm the premises.
54. Should a Competitor or Troupe require Props a teacher/teachers’ must be available to put on
and off props in a timely manner.
CURTAINS
55. Curtains can be used for all troupe group items ONLY. If you decide to use a curtain for
opening or closing of a number, you must advise backstage staff.
56. Curtain must be operated by the teacher only.
LIGHTING
57. No lighting or special effects are to be used ONLY for Gala evening Production item.
58. Revuett,Production Troupe teachers must confirm lighting requirements 1 day prior to Gala
Evening. There will be set lighting available.
AWARDS/SCHOLARSHIPS
59. Medals or Trophies will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd in all sections provided that entry
numbers are sufficient. These decisions are made by the adjudication panel’s discretion.
Special mentions will also be handed out where applicable.
60. The following Major awards are given to winner of LBT sections, winners will be presented at
Gala night.

61. ‘Enter the Stage’ will be giving a cash prize of $250.00 for each Champion Dancer from each
age Group being Under 6, Under 8, Under 10, Under 12, Under 14, Under 16 and Open Age.
The competitor must of won 1st in their section to qualify.
62. Trophies will be awarded to the Winner and Runner up in Champion Dancer for each age
group on Gala Night
63. ‘Enter the Stage’ will be giving a cash prize of $100.00 for each improv competitor from each
age Group Under 6, Under 8, Under 10, Under 12, Under 14, Under 16 and Open Age.
64. Scholarships and other awards will be announced on the 2016 programme.
65. OVERALL Champion Dancer also receives a 1 on 1 meeting with Clear Talent a LA booking
agent with regards to future representation.

68. Teachers please be careful to enter your students in the correct section. If students are in the
wrong classification they may be disqualified.
69. OPEN:
a. This is any competitor that has won in a Novice section prior to these competitions.
b. Any competitor that has won in a unclassified section
c. Any competitor that has entered into an Open section prior to these competitions
70. NOVICE:
a. Any competitor that hasn’t competed in a solo prior to these competitions
b. Any competitor that has previously competed in a novice section but hasn’t placed 1st
c. Any competitor that has entered in unclassified section and not placed 1st
71. UNCLASSIFIED SECTION
a. This section is created when there are not enough competitors to have a novice and
open section in the competition
b. It is a combination of novice and open competitors

SECTIONS
JAZZ
Jazz accepts all styles and forms (Funky Jazz, Broadway style, Jazz,) in medium to fast
tempo. Broadway choreography must be from a musical piece or cinematic musical.
COMMERICAL JAZZ
A current jazz routine to commercial music, combining modern dance elements using
strong jazz technique such as splits, kicks and isolations. NO HIP HOP
LYRICAL JAZZ
A lyrical routine utilizes slow and controlled movement that demonstrates a close
connection to the musical piece connected to lyric whilst showing strong technique in
balance, flexibility and control.
CONTEMPORARY
A routine that must show true contemporary technique in tempo and style. Contemporary is
an interpretive dance showing parallel lines, control and balance which combine both lyrical
CLASSICAL
and modern movements.
Classical section can include Neo Classical, Classical or Demi Character. Classical must wear
a short tutu and either ballet or pointe shoes.
HIP HOP
A routine that utilises the latest street dance in Hip Hop, Breakdance and rap movements.
OWN CHOREOGRAPHY
Can be any style produced solely by a student with no assistance from teacher. Solo, Duo
or Trio. Open Competitors in Under 10 to Open Age only, solos, duo and trio.
Modern Choreographed routine comprising acrobatic work. Must have a dance element
included to create a fluent piece.
ACROBATICS
Use of tricks, Ariel, Contortion and floor work.
TAP
Any style or tempo. No tap sounds are permitted in the music to aid the tapper.
Competitors must wear tap shoes.
IMPROV
Competitors compete in each age group. Each Competitor is assigned a number and they
perform on stage to the adjudicator in groups. The adjudicators will do a series of rounds
till they get to the winner from each age category were the winners will win a cash prize of
$100.00 each.
CHAMPION DANCER
On Gala Evening competitors that have placed 1 stin their own age group categories (OPEN
SECTION ONLY) go into ‘DANCE OFF’ to become Champion Dancer of their age group and
OVERALL CHAMPION DANCER OF THE FESTIVAL. Runner up will receive a trophy and the
competitors who win Champion Dancer for their age category receive a trophy and
$250.00 each. OVERALL Champion Dancer also receives a 1 on 1 meeting with Clear Talent
a LA booking agent with regards to future representation.
REVUETTE
Production could be a piece that a studio uses for an opening number at a concert or end of

year performance. Studios may use a variety of different songs and ages. The piece may
include all styles including musical theatre, any dance genre, comedy,staging etc. To
TROUPES
compete there must be at least 15 competitors and a time limit of 10 minutes.
Will be accepted where included in the above sections. Must have at least 6 or more
performers in a troupe.
KICK UP YOUR HEELS
This is for our Mature dancers aged 25+. Must have at least 6 or more performers in the
troupe. It may be any style.

Ability Dance group with additional or special needs.
