information SHEET MINNESOTA Lighting Efficiency high-bay fluorescents High-bay T8 and T5 fluorescent lighting offers many advantages over traditional high-intensity discharge (HID) light sources, such as metal halide, pulse-start metal halide, mercury vapor and highpressure sodium lamps. High-intensity fluorescents for high-bay lighting are good for these types of buildings: HIGH-BAY FLUORESCENT LIGHTING OPTIONS OFFER GREATER SAVINGS, GREATER REWARDS, MORE OPTIONS High-intensity discharge (HID) light sources, such as metal halide and high-pressure sodium lamps, have long dominated the market for lighting indoor spaces with high ceilings. But advances in fluorescent lighting technology (T5 and T8 systems) and the emergence of new high-intensity fluorescent (HIF) fixtures over the past few years have increased the potential for new savings and improved lighting, making it the most costeffective choice for lighting high indoor spaces. Even if you’ve previously upgraded your lighting for efficiency, new technology warrants a closer look with significant maintenance savings and paybacks oftentimes well under two years. Today’s new high-intensity fluorescent fixtures, such as T8s and T5s, are better options for high-bay areas with ceilings higher than 15 feet, such as big-box retail stores, warehouses, gymnasiums, food-processing plants and other buildings with high ceilings. They can improve the quality of light and in turn employee productivity by reducing eyestrain. Your employees are more comfortable and your building is more attractive to customers and tenants. High-bay fluorescent lighting offers more energy savings High-intensity fluorescent fixtures reduce energy use by up to 30 percent or more than traditional HID lamps. A typical project goes from around 460 Watts to 220 Watts – that’s more than 50 percent savings and can be set up with occupancy sensors, timers or dimmers to further cut electricity costs. These new fixtures also emit less heat. In some facilities, this heat reduction can decrease air conditioning costs – and even offer demand savings. • Factories • Warehouses • Athletic facilities • Large retail stores In addition to energy savings, they offer these benefits: • L ower lumen depreciation rates • Improved dimming and occupancysensor options • Virtually instant start-up and re-strike • B etter color rendition and reduced glare • L ast longer and require less maintenance information SHEET LIGHTING EFFICIENCY MINNESOTA business solutions center 1-800-481-4700 High-bay fluorescent lighting rebates offer greater rewards Our Lighting Efficiency program offers lighting rebates designed to boost your bottom line.
