Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy

Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy - Day Program
Clinical support, education and resources to enhance your patient’s ability to change the way they
think, feel and behave
Who is the program for?
When is it held?
The aim of the Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy
(MBCT) Program is to help patients to better manage
their moods, attain better control of their reactions
to stressful events, and to live with psychological
and/or medical problems more effectively. MBCT is a
scientifically validated program for depression
relapse prevention, managing stress and negative
mood states.
The MBCT Day program is held over eight (8) weeks,
on Friday from 9:00am until 2:30pm. Morning tea
and lunch is provided.
Program content
The Townsville Private Clinic, MBCT program aims to
help the patient to:
• Become more aware of bodily sensations,
feelings, and thoughts from moment to moment
(so that difficulties are noticed and acted upon).
• Develop mindful acceptance and
acknowledgment of unwanted feelings and
thoughts, rather than habitual, automatic, preprogrammed routines that tend to perpetuate
difficulties.
• Improve concentration.
• View yourself and your world more objectively .
• Promote acceptance of unwanted thoughts and
feelings.
• Choose the most skilful response to unpleasant
thoughts, feelings, or situations.
• Become aware of warning signs for low
mood/anxiety and developing an action plan.
A group setting is an ideal place to learn and practice
these skills, because it offers a safe and supportive
environment.
About the Program
Participants are encouraged to become more aware
of their own unique warning signs of impending
depression, and to develop specific action plans for
when this might occur. MBCT combines both the
generic themes of mindfulness approaches in
general and help in dealing with the specific
problems that depression poses.
