General Maintenance
The following maintenance procedures are recommended to be performed on a regular basis.
This will ensure that your HouseCalls application continues to perform under the most optimum
of conditions.
• Run Disk Cleanup (DO NOT INCLUDE “COMPRESS OLD FILES”)
• Run Disk Defragmenter
• Clear the Windows Temp Directory (explanation)
Situation: "Yesterday I could play and record in HC and could make phone calls with no
problems. Today when I try to do this, the HC program locks up." What is wrong?
Explanation: The MTpci board uses .pcm files during playback/recording; therefore, temporary
.pcm files are created in the Windows TEMP directory. We have run into some systems where,
for whatever reason, Windows does not clear files from this directory upon reboot. What
happens? These temporary files keep getting created until it reaches tmp10000.pcm. Now it
can't increment the # anymore, so it can't create the temporary pcm files anymore.
Note: Do not search for .pcm files using the Windows search utility. The search screen will
omit searching through TEMP directories. Be sure you manually open the TEMP directory to
find .pcm files. Please check the system Environmental Variables to verify the location of the
TEMP directory.
On a Win9X platform, the .pcm files are temporarily stored in C:\Windows\Temp. On an
NT/2K/XP platform, the .pcm files are temporarily stored in C:\Documents and Settings\<user
name>\Local Settings\Temp. If on NT/2K/XP, change the environmental variables to store
TEMP/TMP files at C:\Temp.
Solution: To resolve, simply delete these .pcm files…..
• Delete the HouseCalls Log Files
- Locate the C:\WINDOWS\System32 directory and delete any file labeled “BugAssert_?.log“ .
• Reindex the HouseCalls application
−Click on the Start button, then select Run
In the Open command type: “ C:\HouseCalls\HCalls.exe /i /n “
1
You will then see HouseCalls performing a "reindex" of its’ databases.
Once completed; the program will launch.
Close the program and open again, but this time from the shortcut on your desktop.
