BH3 OPEN OUTSTATION AT MAE SOT FRIDAY 13 NOVEMBER TO
SUNDAY 15 NOVEMBER

Some views during the run including the corn godown at the halfway point
1.
The wide picture.
This run will take you through fantastic border scenery with hills overlooking Burma a few
kilometres away. There are corn fields, cabbage fields, macadamia trees and chillie plantations
mostly tended to by Burmese labour. There are rivers to cross, hills with bush to climb and a
gentle waterfall to shimmy up at the end after a 1km tough bash through the jungle.
Arrangements made for those less adventurous doing a short run.
Note: The area is well worth an extended visit if you can. The road from Mae Sot - Po Phra Umphang is really magnificent, passing the refugee camp at Um Piang. A visit to the border just
a few kilometres away from Mae Sot is well worth it. Rim Moie market is full of Burmese goods
and there is a good restaurant there which has a great Ka Pot Pla, the fish stomach in sauce.
The Thi Lo Su Waterfall in Umphang National Park is famous.
2.
Main details.
Friday.
Three flights in from DMK on Nok and Kan. See Paragraph 3 for flight details.
Meet 6.30pm at Maesot City Hills Hotel. Transport to the famous Khaomao-Khaofang
Restaurant some 2km away. After dinner and drinks “at your leisure” or scour the bars of Mae
Sot.
View from one of the restaurant tables
Saturday.
First flight in from DMK on Nok Air and Kanair.
Run is A- B. Transport from Maesot City Hills Hotel to run site at 1430hrs.
Arrive start of run in the fields near Po Phra at around 1500hrs and start run.
Run fees etc can be collected at the hotel and are the same as for all BH3 runs.
There is an extra B200 per head to cover the costs of transport from A-B and back to the hotel.
The main run almost just on 8kms, the shorter run at over 4kms – however, even the short run
is “more than a gentle stroll through the beautiful border area”. Short run participants are
picked up at a corn godown water stop overlooking the Burma border and taken to the ON IN
site. The main run continues through wonderful tracks and trails and eventually dives into
jungle just 1km from the end. A tough hacked-out trail will bring you onto the gentle water falls
which you can walk up to the ON IN site. An opportunity to cool-down and try on the T-shirt
generously given by Vichai Cool.
One of the gentle water falls at the ON IN site.
After the ON IN and circle, the ON ON restaurant is a few hundred metres away. There is
transport back to Mae Sot and if you have any energy left, the remaining evening is “at your
leisure” in town again.
Sunday am.
If enough interest is shown, the hares will arrange a 10.30 am meet at Maesot City Hills Hotel
for a hangover run around the immediate vicinity of the hotel outside Mae Sot.
