MEET THE COACHES: BOYS TRAVEL SEASON 2012-2013 David Mayerson 18 U Head Mark Ribeiro, 17 U Head This is David’s first year with CALI. At age twelve David discovered his true desire for volleyball. As a four-year varsity starter at Lawrence High School he set the all-time career assist record with 1,610 career assists and during his senior year led his team to an undefeated season and a county championship. While playing club volleyball at LIVBC, David played on a team that finished fifth at the Junior Olympics in Phoenix, Arizona in 2003. He was also a two-time participant at New York’s Empire State Games, winning a Bronze Medal in 2003 and a Gold Medal in 2007. After he graduated from Lawrence in 2004, he played intercollegiate volleyball at Brooklyn College. In 2007 and 2009 he was named Brooklyn College Men’s Volleyball Player of the Year. In 2007 he was named to the all CUNYAC Conference Team as well as receiving Rookie of the Week Honors twice during that season. In 2009 earned the Tracy Ohrman Award, which is given to the athlete who most exemplifies personal strength and perseverance. In addition, in 2009 he ranked in the top five in the country in aces. Since graduating from college in 2009 he has taught and coached volleyball to players ranging in age from five to eighteen. In 2011 David was named the head coach of the Girls Varsity Volleyball program at Lawrence High School and is enrolled in a Master’s Program in Health Education at Adelphi University. Mark Ribeiro II enters his first season with CALI. He is currently in his second season as head coach of the men's volleyball team and first as head coach of the women's volleyball team. Ribeiro went 9-23 in his first season at the helm of the Beavers men's volleyball program in 2012. Ribeiro – a graduate of Springfield College in Massachusetts – began his collegiate playing career at the University of Hawaii of Manoa. After redshirting for the 2004-2005 season, he played two years for that University, earning the Most Improved Player award for the 2005-2006 campaign. Prior to the 2006-2007 season, he was tabbed as one of the team’s captains, and in both March and April of that season, he earned Player of the Month awards. After a solid playing career at the University of Hawaii of Manoa, he transferred to Springfield College in Massachusetts and earned countless accolades. In two consecutive seasons (2007-2008 and 2008-2009), he was named the ACVA-NCAA Most Valuable Player. In 2007-2008, he helped Springfield College win an AVCA-NCAA National Championship, as he was named tournament MVP. During the 2007-2008 and 20082009 seasons, he was named to the All-Academic Team, while also earning All-American status. Then, in 2010 and 2011, he served as a player/coach/consultant on a team in a league in Switzerland, and presently he plays on the USA National Volleyball squad. Ribeiro served as an assistant coach for one year at Springfield College, as he logged on with the coaching staff after finishing his playing career there. Following that, he served as the head coach of the T-Street Volleyball Club in Irvine, California while also being the headman for the Riptides Volleyball Club in Anaheim, California. Outside of volleyball, Ribeiro serves as a Professional Personal Trainer at New York Sports Club locations in Manhattan. There, he is responsible for helping clients achieve their fitness goals through personal group and class training. Dennis Ringel is in his 16th year coaching volleyball, entering his fifth year as Varsity Coach of the Bellmore JFK boys program. Over these four seasons, the team has won three Nassau County championships and have been County runners-up once. Prior to this, he coached in New York City at Friends Academy and in Pennsylvania at Columbia Jr/Sr High School where the team was a two-time state qualifier. Graduates include one AVCA High School All-American and two first-team all-state honorees, and have gone on to play at many top colleges and universities including California State Northridge, SUNY New Paltz, Ursinis University, Misericordia University, and Mount St. Marys College. Dennis Ringel, 16 U Head Dennis has also coached at the club level in Pennsylvania for Queens Court Volleyball and the Columbia Volleyball Club which he founded, ran, and coached. He played outside hitter at Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania and SUNY Geneseo, and graduated from East Meadow High School and the volleyball program there in 1992. MEET THE COACHES: BOYS TRAVEL SEASON 2012-2013 David Eisermann has been a teacher at New Hyde Park Memorial High school for the past 13 years. He has been head varsity coach of the boys program for the past 12 seasons. Over that time his teams have achieved 3 league championships and have been a perennial playoff team. He has also coached the junior high boys program at New Hyde Park for the past 12 seasons, winning 9 of 12 district championships. David Eisermann, 15 U Head Thomas (pronounced Tomas) is a multicultural and multilingual world citizen, as a result of both his family background (with French, Brazilian, Japanese and more) and his father’s job assignments throughout the world. Thomas has lived in Tokyo, Paris, Brasilia, Washington D.C. and now New York City. He is fluent in French, English and Portuguese. He graduated from the Pennsylvania State University in May 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in Economics and minor in Business. Thomas was surrounded by volleyball since a young age, with his mother, uncle and cousins playing at a high level in France. After leaving his family to come to the U.S., Thomas joined the Division I Varsity Men’s Volleyball team for Penn State winning a National Championship his freshman year. During the Fall of 2010, Thomas also assisted the Penn State Women’s team during road to fourth consecutive National Championship title. Thomas Da Silva, 14 U Head Thomas officially started playing indoor and beach volleyball at the age of 12 and has been coaching volleyball since he was 15. Michael Olsen enters his first year with CALI, but has been coaching volleyball for a number of years. Olsen has been in the Sewanhaka School District for the past 5 years. He has served Elmont Memorial High School as the girls Junior Varsity volleyball coach for the past 2 seasons. He has also assisted Coach Eisermann with the New Hyde Park boys junior high program for the past 5 years Mike Olsen, 15 U MEET THE COACHES: BOYS TRAVEL SEASON 2012-2013 MEET THE COACHES: BOYS TRAVEL SEASON 2012-2013 Stew enters his first with CALI, but has been coaching for a number of years. Former player for Billy Gibson at Long Beach High School, Ratzken was assistant coach for the Long Beach High School Volleyball team after graduation. Prior to accepting this position, he worked various volleyball clinics, including the Beach Volleyball Clinic for children of 9/11 victims. Stew Ratzken 16 U Outside the gym, Stew teaches the drumline at Lynbrook High School, and has taught music at St. Andrews’, and Long Beach Regional Catholic School. Jen Koelbel is entering her third year as a head coach for CALI, and is a current student athlete at Molloy College. As a player in 2011, Jen started 18 of the 23 matches she appeared in. She led the team with 570 assists, added 99 digs, 17 service aces and five blocks. Jen checked in 46 assists in a 3-2 triumph versus Southern Connecticut State University on Sept. 2, picked up 45 assists against Assumption College on Sept. 26, recorded 31 assists and three service aces against Queens College on Sept. 28, racked up 41 assists in a 3-1 win over Bloomfield College on Oct. 23, totaled a season-high 55 assists along with two aces in a 3-1 win against Felician College on Nov. 2, and passed out 40 assists in a 3-1 win over Mercy College on Nov. 9. Jen Koelbel 15 U As a coach in 2010, she led the CALI 14U team to a top 10 rank in GEVA, finishing 2 nd overall at Regional Championships. In 2011, she led the CALI 15U team to another top 10 rank in GEVA, and placed in Gold Bracket at MLK Kickoff Classic in Lancaster, PA. Ashley Paredes is entering her second year as a head coach for CALI. She has been the Assistant Coach at Nassau Community College for the past 3 years, leading them to win 3 consecutive Regional Championships. They placed 7th in 2009 and 4th in 2010 at the NJCAA National Tournament. In 2008, Paredes was the head coach of boys JV and 7th grade teams at Plainview Old Bethpage. As a player, Ashley played 2 seasons at Suffolk County Community College and was named a pre-season AllAmerican in 2006, and a first team All-Region player in 2005 and 2006. She transferred to Long Island University CW Post in 2007 and played two seasons, had a total of 82 kills, 26 assists, 27 aces, 23 blocks, and 239 Digs. Ashley Paredes MEET THE COACHES: BOYS TRAVEL SEASON 2012-2013 Stefani Koelbel is entering her third year with CALI, and is a current student athlete at Molloy College. As a player in 2011, she made an appearance in 32 matches, led the team with 475 digs, collected 36 kills, 33 assists, and 37 aces. She began the season with an 18-dig performance in a 3-2 victory versus Southern Connecticut State University on Sept. 2. Stef amassed 22 digs against Wilmington University on Sept. 10, totaled 30 digs versus Assumption College on Sept. 26, racked 23 digs in a 3-1 win against Caldwell College on Oct. 7, and Grabbed 21 digs in a 3-1 triumph over Felician College on Nov. 9. In 201 Stefani Koelbel 15 U As a coach in 2011, she led the CALI 16’s team to a top 10 rank, finished 2nd in Silver at Capitol Hill Classic in Washington DC, and 1st in Silver at MLK Kick Off Classic in Lancaster, PA.
