This area will include the public facilities such as the prayer room for men and Women,
toilets and ablution for men and women.

3.1.5 Islamic Center’s Rooms description
- Mosque: The mosque area is considered as the sacred space in this building complex.
The spaces must be carefully planned according to Islamic norms and rules for
orientation. Nordic architecture also known for simplicity and bright minimalistic
expression, and is seen as a natural inspiration source for the interior design of this
Mosque.
o Prayer areas:
Two prayer halls, one for male worshippers and one for female worshippers, will be the
central spaces in the Mosque. The spaces will have different sizes with segregated
entrance areas, but are intended to provide the same quality in terms of architecture
and the spatial experience. The prayer hall for males will be considered as the main
prayer room including the mosque components as mihrab and kursi. The female part
must be designed with a clear element indicating the direction of Mecca.
o Ablution:
Segregated areas must be provided for the ritual ablution before prayer. Additional
ablution space in connection with funerals must be established.
- CULTURAL CENTRE: The Cultural Centre is meant to be a gathering space separated in
function from the sacred mosque space but still connected to the mosque providing
additional spaces. The cultural Centre is thought to be a new social meeting place across
the cultural boundaries for both Muslims and non-Muslim to narrow down the cultural
gap in the society.
o Administration:
Office spaces for administration and staff in total two rooms, additional space for copy
machines and office equipment.
o Teaching
Lecture rooms for religious and language teaching for kids and adults. In total 6 rooms
must be planned.
o Library:
The mosque library contains books, tapes and videos to help the congregation learn
more about Islam. Note the Qur’ans at the top, carefully wrapped in material covers. On
the floor are two ra’els, wooden stands to hold the Qur’an whilst reading. Library space
with literature and computer facilities.

WALLS: it will be non toxic paint(No-VOC), odorless, odor-free and green, natural or
organic paints. They are made from natural ingredients such as water, vegetable oils,
plant dyes, and natural minerals. It will be a beige color covering almost all the walls
with some natural wood panels for decoration. Long lasting and requiring minimal
maintenance.
CELLING: it will be covered with gypsum board with recycled paper facings front and
back. It consist of paper (recycled, from newspapers, phone books, old corrugated
cartons and cardboard cuttings) and corn or wheat starch binders.
LIGHTING
It will have lighting designed with energy effiecent light. Task level is at the floor where
people sit and read Quran. Fluorescent type lighting is common often combined with
some incandescent lamps. Day lighting can be greatly
Utilized during daytime prayers.
COLORS
The selection of color and the reflectance values of finish materials must be ecofriendly
selections. It should consider everything that will have a healthy environment by giving
a good design and choosing the right natural materials.
The colors for prayer halls are inspired from nature and earthy colors.
OTHER NEEDS
Trying to minimize the colomens in prayer halls, so people can see the imaam and feel
the connections without the coloumns destraction.

addeed. It’s durable, strong and suaitable for wet spaces.
WALLS: it will be cover with natural ceramic tiles. They are made from natural. There
are other options for toilets walls like Ceramic tiles, natural stone, homogeneous tiles,
stainless steel, enameled.
CELLING: it will be covered with gypsum board with recycled paper facings front and
back. It consist of paper (recycled, from newspapers, phone books, old corrugated
cartons and cardboard cuttings) and corn or wheat starch binders.

LIGHTING


COLORS
Lighting would be mainly a combination between fluorescent and incandescent
lamp.
A well-designed lighting system will save electrical energy and improve the
appearance of the toilet.
All public toilets should be provided with warm-color lighting for general
lighting as well as down lights above the wash basin/mirror
It will have natural colors, like beige, brown, some green will be added. Also by mixing
with modern influence which is steel. So silver color will be included.
OTHER NEEDS



Single entrance/exit plans work satisfactorily provided the path of the users do
not cross each other and the entrance is wide enough.
Public toilets should be designed to minimise hand contact as far as possible

materials which are impervious to water or covered with materials which are
impervious to water. Flooring materials will not contain cracks, chips or the like which
would allow for fluids to seep into the exposed area making proper cleaning of the
floors impossible
WALLS: The walls will run from floor to ceiling and shall be of finished tile or other
material finished with enimal paint, or other waterproof material, and contain no open
seams, cracks or chips;
CELLING: it will be covered with gypsum board with recycled paper facings front and
back. It consist of paper (recycled, from newspapers, phone books, old corrugated
cartons and cardboard cuttings) and corn or wheat starch binders. The ceiling should be
as air-tight as possible.
LIGHTING
It will have lighting designed with energy effiecent light. Task level on each showering
bed. Fluorescent lighting type would be the majority in this space
COLORS
Colors are recommended to be light and refreshing like white. Especially, when there
are some tasks to do which are washing and shrouding.
OTHER NEEDS





All opening windows and outside doors will be adequately screened and
shielded from outside viewing.
The preparation room will be strictly private and locked at all times.
The preparation room will have hot and cold running water
The preparation room willl have a separate sink, in addition to the embalming
waste sink, for personal use with hot and cold running water
All bodies in the preparation room shall be treated with proper care and dignity


The colors will be the same pattern as the prayer hall, because it’s an open space. But it
can be added interesting design like carving and some Islamic chandeliers. It will be all
colored with natural color scheme.





It required to have a high technology system that organized the books and can
be easly be searched.
Both should have their own entrance.
It required to have huge storage room for books.
For the library should have high tec computer, so people can search for
information with high connection


organic paints. They are made from natural ingredients such as water, vegetable oils,
plant dyes, and natural minerals. It will be added some few modern design and Islamic
touches to this area

back. It consist of paper (recycled, from newspapers, phone books, old corrugated

and wood work suspended from the ceiling

It required to be task light above the tables to eat. Also above the counter were they
collect what they want from the display.
Also there will be task light inside the kitchen area and storage room to prepare the
food.

The color will be the same color scheme for the prayer hall. It inspired from natural
color scheme, white, brown, gold and green.
Also there will touches of colors like torques in the design.

It required to be interisting place but in the same time eco friendly to the
