Unit 3 - The Diary of Anne Frank Formative 2
CONSTRUCTED RESPONSE
CONSTRUCTED RESPONSE – Directions: Choose 1 of the following prompts. Use a
textbook to help you respond to the prompt you choose. Your answer should be a
minimum of 1 paragraph in length. Your response will be graded using the
Argumentative and Informative Writing Rubric we have used all year.
Remember to use the ACE model to help you construct a complete response.
 Answer what the prompt is telling you to do
 Cite evidence to support your answer
o When you cite, you should include Title, Author, and line number(s) along with quoting or
paraphrasing the words from the text. (Do NOT just write line numbers!)
 Explain how the evidence supports your answer
o Remember the analysis keywords
PROMPT 1: In The Diary of Anne Frank, Anne and Peter both have points of view different
from those of their parents. Analyze how these differences in points of view
create tension in the play. Remember to use details from the text to support your
idea.
PROMPT 2: In the diary entry included on pg. 544, Anne admits that she sometimes feels
like burying her head under the blankets. Yet she puts a “bold face on things.”
Analyze what this reveals about Anne’s character and how the playwrights show
additional evidence of this quality of Anne’s in the play. Find text-based
evidence to support your answer.
PROMPT 3: You have been reading the play The Diary of Anne Frank. Think about how the
playwrights develop the themes in the play. Identify a theme from The Diary of
Anne Frank and analyze how the theme is developed. Include specific details
from the text.
PROMPT 4: Even though Anne and Peter are both experiencing the same difficult living
conditions in the Secret Annex, they do not handle them in the same way.
Consider how they react to the major problems that arise in Act II of The Diary of
Anne Frank and what their reactions reveal about their personality.
You do not need to compare and contrast both characters. You may consider each
one separately. Be sure to include evidence from the text to support your analysis
and understanding.
