Glenbrae Children’s Centre Feb 2017 Dear Parent Easter will be here in a flash, but in the meantime we have a busy, fun-filled time planned within nursery. Staff News A warm welcome to Angela Lynch, who is our new Family Support Worker, Carol Kelly who is our new Bus Escort and Julia Ramage who will be supporting children within the 0-2 room. Karen Munroe will now be supporting children within the 2 to 3 room and Jacqueline Coombes has moved to the 3 to 5 room. Bulb Show 3-5 Learning Children within the Centre have been busy planting bulbs for the Port Glasgow Bulb Show on Saturday 11th March. This year the theme for the Butterfly Room children’s pictures will be ‘Favourite places in Inverclyde’ and the Out of School Care children’s pictures will be ‘Inverclyde Landmarks’. The children have been learning how to count and recognise numbers both indoors and outdoors. They have also been exploring traditional stories (fairy stories, Goldilocks and the Three Bears etc.) and using puppets and music to re- tell their favourite story. Eat Well Feel Better We are hoping to have another cookery class beginning after the Easter holidays. If interested please return your tear off slip to Julie, as places are limited. The children have welcomed the new children from the 2 to 3 room and have been helping them to share and take turns. They have recently celebrated Robert Burns Day and had the opportunity to taste some haggis and oatcakes. All children within the Butterfly Room will have the opportunity to visit Wemyss Bay Forest where they will learn about nature and the outdoor environment. 0-2 Learning The children are having daily opportunities to explore their outdoor environment by participating in walks in the local area. Could parents please provide appropriate clothing e.g. hats and gloves. 2-3 Learning The boys and girls have shown a keen interest in pets and this will be our new focus for the month. We hope to hear all about your family pets and how you look after them. If you have any photographs of your pets could you please bring them into the nursery for the children’s wall display. Children in the 2 to 3 room are now taking part in outdoor play every day. Please make sure your child has suitable clothing, hats, scarves and wellies etc. Out of School Care The children within the OOSC celebrated Burns Day with Scottish music, dancing and they sampled haggis, shortbread and homemade tablet .They also planned activities around Chinese New Year and the children learned how to write their names in Chinese. Over the next few weeks the children will be planning activities around Valentine’s Day and Fairtrade fortnight. They will also be entering the Port Glasgow Bulb Show with their pictures of their favourite Inverclyde landmarks. Dates For Your Diary Science Fayre – Tuesday 14th March.
