Individual User Registration
An Individual should have a valid PAN for registering with the e-Filing application.
Registration Process

Type in the URL of e-Filing application (https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in)

Click on the 'Register Yourself' tab and select 'Individual' against the radio
button found under “Individual/HUF”.

The user will be directed to the registration page and the user will fill the
following fields for further validation.
 PAN – Mandatory, should be valid PAN.
 Surname –Mandatory, should be as per the PAN details.
 First Name – Not mandatory, should be as per the PAN details.
 Middle Name - Not mandatory, should be as per the PAN details.

 Date of Birth – Mandatory, should be as per the PAN details.

Click on the “Continue” button. The registration details page should be
displayed.
A. Password Details



User ID – This will be automatically populated by the system, which is
entered in the Basic Details screen.
Password – Mandatory, should be between 8 – 14 characters,
alphanumeric and should contain at least one special character.
Confirm Password – Mandatory, The user has to enter the same
password as entered above.

Primary Secret Question – Mandatory, The user needs to select any
one question from available in the drop down.
Primary Secret Answer – Mandatory.
Secondary Secret Question – Mandatory, The user needs to select
any one question from available in the drop down.

B. Personal Details
These details could be automatically populated by previously entered basic
details.
C. Contact Details






Landline Number – Not mandatory.
Mobile Number – Mandatory.
If the user is an Non-Resident, Mobile Numberisnot mandatory.
Alternate Mobile Number - Non mandatory.
Email ID – Mandatory, should be valid E-mail ID.
Alternate Email ID - Non mandatory, should be valid E-mail ID.
Fax Number – Non-mandatory.
Note: Same Mobile Number and Email ID can be used for a maximum of 10
assessees, as their Primary Contact details.

F. Enable Alerts, reminder and notifications
This will be auto-selected. User can un-check the box provided to disable
alerts, reminders and notification.
G. Captcha
This is mandatory and the user has to type in the numeric code which
appears on the screen.

Click on ‘SUBMIT’. If it is success, user will be navigated to the “Registration
successful” screen.

The user receives a confirmation e-mail with an activation link to the registered
Email ID. An SMS along with OTP (One time Password) is also sent to the registered
Mobile number.
In order to activate the account, the user should click on the Activation link and
enter the Mobile PIN. On success, the user account is activated and the database is
updated.
For Non-Resident User, Mobile PIN is exempted. Activation link is sent to the e-mail
only. In order to activate the account, the user should click on the Activation link
and enter the Email PINsent to the e-mail ID. On success, the user account is
activated and the database is updated.

Using OTP (PINs)
The user must select one of the options mentioned below
If “Registered Email ID and Mobile Number” is chosen. PINs would be sent to
registered Email ID and Mobile Number.

If “New Email ID and Mobile Number” is chosen. User must enter additional
details like 26AS TAN/ OLTAS CIN/ Bank Account Number.
PINs would be sent to new Email ID and Mobile Number.
The user must enter the PINs received to the registered Email ID and Mobile
Number and Click on “VALIDATE”.

In browser, enter the URL of the e-Filing application (https://Incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in).
Click ‘Login Here’ button. Enter User name (PAN/TAN), password, DOB ,Captcha code or
OTP Option.

If the User has selected the Check box, on Successful Validation of the User ID,
Password and Date of Birth, an OTP shall be sent to User’s Registered Mobile
Number.

The below message should be displayed to the User “OTP will be sent to the
registered mobile number <XXXXXXXXXX>”.


Continue and Cancel shall be provided.
On click of ‘Continue’ button, User needs to enter 6 digit OTP sent to the registered
Mobile number.


Enter OTP and click on ‘Submit’ button.
On Successful Verification of OTP, the User shall be redirected to dashboard page.

Verification and Confirm Contact Details
On Successful Login, If User has not updated Contact Details the user is requested to
update a valid Mobile number and E-mail ID or confirm the Mobile number and Email ID
already registered is their profile. (Department would share all critical communications
only to the mobile number and Email ID registered in e-Filing portal.)
The user can edit his details and click on the “Continue” button.
User has to confirm the Contact details and Click on Continue button.
Or click on Back button to change the details
A mobile PIN and email PIN will be sent to the primary mobile number and
primary Email ID respectively.
Enter Mobile PIN and Email PIN is respective fields and click Continue button

If the PINs are not received within the specified time (say 2 minutes), the taxpayer may
opt for “Resend PINs” option. The PINs once received will be valid for 24hours.
A success message will be displayed. The user can click on “Continue to Login” button
wherein the user will be taken to the Dashboard.

Profile Settings
My Profile
In order to view or update ‘My Profile’, the user needs to perform the following steps
Go to the 'Profile settings’ and Click on the ‘My Profile’ link.
A screen with PAN details, Address and Contact Details will be displayed.
‘PAN Details’ is only a view. User cannot update the PAN details.
In order to change the address details Click on ‘Address’ tab and click on the ‘Edit’
button.

Update the required fields and click on ‘Save’ button. A success message is displayed as
shown.
In order to change the Contact details Click on ‘Contact Details’ tab and click on ‘Edit’
button.
The user can edit the details and click on the ‘Save’ button.
Once the Contact details are changed, the user must enter the Mobile PIN and the Email
PIN which will be sent to the Mobile number and Email ID mentioned by the user
respectively.
Enter the Mobile PIN and Email PIN. Click on confirm. A success message will be

Change Password
Navigate to Profile Settings  Change Password
Enter old password, new password, confirm password and click submit.
Change Secret Question and Answer
Navigate to Change Secret Question(s) and Answer(s).

Register Digital Signature Certificate
Navigate to Profile settings -> Register digital signature certificate
Upload the Signature file generated using DSC Management Utility.
Click Submit. Success message will be displayed on the screen.
e-Filing Vault-Higher Security
In order to ensure additional security to the user’s e-Filing account, user is enabled to
login through Net-Banking, using DSC, Aadhaar OTP, Bank account EVC and using
Demat Account EVC. At any time, user can also deactivate the secured login.
Navigate to Profile Settingse-Filing Vault-Higher Security.

Login through net-banking

User needs to select the option “Login through net-banking”. Once the user selects
the checkbox, below confirmation appears. Click “OK” and click the “Proceed” button.

User will be redirected to a confirmation page.


Next time the user logs in, the user is redirected to “e-Filing Login Through NetBanking” page where the user needs to select his / her bank and login to the bank.

User can also deactivate the login through Net Banking by unchecking the same
option and click on proceed.

Click on the “Disable” button to confirm.

Login Using DSC

User needs to select the option “Login using DSC”. Once the user selects the
checkbox, below confirmation appears. Click “OK” and click the “Proceed” button.

User will be redirected to a confirmation page.

Click on “Confirm” button. Success message is displayed on the screen.

Next time the user logs in, the user is redirected to Secured Login Option page where
the user needs to select the either New or Registered DSC and upload the signature
file generated using DSC Management Utility. Click Submit.

User can also deactivate the login through DSC by unchecking the same option and
click on proceed.

Click on the “Disable” button to confirm.
Login Using Aadhaar OTP

User needs to select the option “Login using Aadhaar OTP”. Once the user selects the
checkbox, below confirmation appears. Click “Generate Aadhaar OTP” button.

Aadhaar OTP is successfully generated and will be sent to the Mobile Number
registered with Aadhaar.

Enter the Aadhaar OTP and click Validate.Click on “OK” and click “Proceed” button.

Success message is displayed on the screen.

User can also deactivate the login through Aadhaar OTP by unchecking the same
option and click on proceed. Click on the “Disable” button to confirm.
Login Using Bank Account EVC

User needs to select the option “Login using Bank Account EVC”. Once the user
selects the checkbox, below confirmation appears and click on “OK”

Login Using Demat Account EVC

User needs to select the option “Login using Demat Account EVC”. Once the user
selects the checkbox, below confirmation appears.

Click on Proceed button. The following Confirmation screen is displayed to the user

Enter the Demat account EVC and click Validate. Click on “OK” and click “Proceed”
button.


Manage ITDREIN
Users who have already registered in e-Filing portal can use this functionality to generate
ITDREIN (Income Tax Department Reporting Entity Identification Number) and upload
certain forms in e-Filing portal using the generated ITDREIN.

Steps to Generate ITDREIN
Step 1: Login to e-Filing portal using User ID, e-Filing Password and DOB/DOI.
Step 2:Go to My Account >Manage ITDREIN.
Step 3:To generate new ITDREIN click on the button “Generate New ITDREIN”.
Step 4: A Pop up with Form Type and Reporting Entity Category is displayed. Select the
Form Type and Reporting Entity Category from the dropdown.
Step 5: Based on the Form Type and Reporting Entity Category selected, the ITDREIN
will be generated and the user will be able to upload and view the corresponding Form.
Step 6:Click Generate ITDREIN button
Step 7:Success Message is displayed as shown below. User receives a confirmation email on successful generation of ITDREIN to the registered Email ID. An SMS is also
sent to the registered Mobile number.

Steps to Add Authorised Person
Step 1: Login to e-Filing portal using User ID, e-Filing Password and DOB.
Step 2: Go to My Account >Manage ITDREIN.
Step 3: To add Authorised Person for the generated ITDREIN, click on the link provided
in the ITDREIN Column.
Step 4 – Click on the button Add Authorised Person.
Step 5 – A Pop up with Authorised Person details appears as shown below.

1. If the Form Type is FORM61B, user needs to select “Authorised Person Type” from the
drop down. This field is not available for “Form15CC”.

Step 7:User receives a confirmation e-mail on successful Addition of Authorised
Person to the registered Email ID. An SMS is also sent to the registered Mobile

the Authorised Person’s Mobile Number.
In order to activate the account, the user should click on the Activation link, enter the
Mobile PIN, Password and Confirm Password and click on Activate Button. On
success, the user account is activated and the database is updated.
Step 9: After the Authorised person is activated, Authorised person can view the details
as below.
Note – If the Form Type is FORM61B, the Additional details tab will also be displayed
along with Authorised Person Details. User can also edit the Additional Details.
View e- Filed Returns/Forms
Navigate to My Account ->View e-Filed Returns/Forms
Click on View e-Filed Return/Forms.

User will be able to see the status of returns/forms.
Click on the Acknowledgment number. The Details of the acknowledgment number is

The ‘Request successfully submitted’ page will display the following details:
‘Your request to add XYZ holding AAAAA1234A as a representative has been registered
with Transaction ID – 1000794315. XYZ holding AAAAA1234A can act on this request
within 7 days by going to Worklist post login’
After submitting,
 An alert message will be sent to the Representative PAN’s e-mail ID and mobile
number intimating that a request has been raised.
 The Representative Assessee can view the request details at e-Filing portal post
login under ‘Worklist’ tab ‘For Your Action’.

chosen as mentioned in The following table represents the details of PAN, Date of Birth
(DOB) and the respective documents required while registering for the applicable

1. Request will be sent to the e-Filing Admin for approval.
2. The e-Filing Admin will check the authenticity of the request details and may

The user can view the requests raised under “Add/Register as Representative” as
described in the following sub-section.
Add another person to represent on your behalf
Perform the following steps to view the request raised under ‘Add another person to
represent on your behalf’.
For the Person who raised the request

Representative’ as ‘Add another person to represent on your behalf’ 

Note:
CANCEL – If the Representative assessee has not acted upon the
request raised, then the user can CANCEL the request.
WITHDRAW – If the Representative assessee has Accepted the
request, then the user can remove them by WITHDRAWING the
request.

Step 1
Post login to e-Filing portal, navigate to ‘Worklist’ tab  Click ‘For Your
Action’ Click ‘Pending requests to Add you as Representative
Assessee’ Click the hyperlink given on ‘PAN Number’to view the request
details.
Step 2
The following two options are available:
 Approve: The request can be approved by attaching a PDF copy of
notarised Power of Attorney (POA) received from the assessee.
 Reject: The request can be rejected by providing the comments.
Register yourself on behalf of another person
Perform the following steps to view the request raised under ‘Register yourself on behalf
of another person’.
