Journal Ranking for the Kiel Institute Version January 2016 We define a research publication as a paper that is published in an internationally renowned, peerreviewed journal or in a peer-reviewed volume edited by internationally renowned researchers. A journal is considered as internationally renowned and peer-reviews if (1) The journal has information about the referee process on its homepage or can otherwise be shown to be refereed, and if (2) The journal is listed on EconLit, or is (or will be) listed by the ISI Web of Knowledge Journal Citation Reports in Science or Social Science. Journals that fulfill these minimum criteria are classified as C Journals. B journals are all Journals listed in the ISI Web of Knowledge Journal Citation Reports in Science or Social Science. A+, A, and B+ Journals are classified according to the Article Influence Score (AIS) in the ISI Web of Knowledge Journal Citation Reports in Science or Social Science 2014. For Journals in the Subject Category “Economics” • • • A+: Top 5% of the Subject Category “Economics” according to AIS A: Top 5 to 15% in the Subject Category “Economics according to AIS B+: Top 15 to 30% in the Subject Category “Economics according to AIS For all journals that are not listed in the ISI subject category “Economics” the following rules hold • • • A+: Nature and Science A: the average ranking in all subject categories by AIS is in the top 5%. B+: the average ranking in all subject categories by AIS is in the top 5 to top 15% We consider contributions to edited volumes as research publications if: (1) The publisher is internationally renowned and there is a referee process, and if (2) The editors have at least five publications in A Journals or at least one of the editors is also the editor of a journal in the categories a+, a, B+ or B. Updates: The Ranking will be adjusted at the beginning of each year to the latest Citation Reports.
