Industry influencers on the Research
Arm
.
Bringing the changes
Stakeholders
• IRF active and non-active members
• Regulatory institutions
•Service providers
•Partners & prospective partners
Bringing the changes
Research Arm
•Necessity has been established
•Priority interventions has been identified
•Environmental platform has been set
• Stakeholders buy-in has been tested
• Key drivers of the research have been
identified
•Implementation needs to be rolled out
Bringing the changes
We are working with two concepts
here
•Vision
•Knowledge
Bringing the changes
Let’s examine that vision
•In 2011, 83.61% of IRF members endorsed research, benchmarking and
measurement as an essential IRF industry service (Member Survey)
•2012 Strategy incorporated the planning and development of an IRF Research
Platform to build industry and member knowledge resources
•The development of the platform was launched by the President, Mr. Zamani
Letjane, at the 2012 Annual Conference
•Anticipated focus to researching standards, practices and education needs
amongst all stakeholders.
•Three phased survey research process
Bringing the changes
In a phased approach
•Phase One
•Determining the research and benchmarking needs of IRF members and
the Top 100 Funds in the region
•Phase Two
•Identifying benchmarks and perceived best practices amongst a
demographically representative sample of regional retirement funds across
variables identified in Phase 1
•Phase Three:
•Aligning these benchmarks to the needs of members of retirement funds
by researching these needs amongst a representative sample of members
of regional retirement funds. (Information/communication,
administrative/service, knowledge/educational, financial literacy levels)
Perceptions
• Whose role is it actually to research?
•What will happen to those researchers in the industry?
•What should be standards?
•Who will benefit mostly from the research arm?
•At what cost will the research arm be effective?
• Who will actual be the custodian of researches?
•What difference or impact will the research arm bring?
•Room to compliment what ever
currently exist is there!
Industry influencers
• Recognition of common interest that looting the most
important investment that needs to be integratively and
comprehensively harnessed does not only reduce
margins over-time but challenges the actual human
existence.
•Gradually finding the balance between research for the
archives and advocacy for common knowledge.
•Confronting & changing current
dictates of supply and demand!
Process
• Accepting that it has been necessary to start with
burning research needs.
• That one of the Research Arm real objectives is to
systemically root out subjective practices and
trends through a balanced information tool.
•Tilting the scales to differently growing the most
important investment.
•Time For Change is now!!!
