Mini-case studies must be completed in every chapter since future chapter activities build
upon them.
The Optum™ PM and Physician EMR software can accessed at
www.cengage.com/optumsimulation (the www.cengage.com/caretracker URL will work
as well).
The most current “System Requirements” document is posted to the instructor companion
site.
CHAPTER 2


Activity 2-2 on page 16. The final sentence should be revised at the end of Step 3: “Note:
On subsequent logins, a dialog box called Operator Encounter Control Batch will display
when you first sign in. Close out of this box by clicking the Save button at the bottom of
the box.”
Activity 2-3: Recorded Training—General Navigation and Help (page 18). The
organization of the Help system in Optum™ PM and Physician EMR has been updated
since the book was first published. Steps 1-3 are accurate, but the remaining steps should
be completed as follows:

5. Click on the General Navigation and Help System topic (Figure 2-8).

Activity 2-4: Snipit Fiscal Period (page 19). The organization of the Help system in
Optum™ PM and Physician EMR has been updated since the book was first published.
Steps 1 and 2 are accurate, but the remaining steps should be completed as follows:

4. Scroll down to the Practice Management section. The recorded trainings are grouped
by topic area. Any training with an “(S)” at the end of the title is a Snipit training.
5. Click on the Fiscal Period (S) topic under “Billing & Claims Training” (Figure 2-10).

Activity 2-5: Operator Audit Log (page 20). The steps and appearance of this activity
have changed in Optum™ PM and Physician EMR since this book was first published.
Steps 1 and 2 are accurate, but from Step 3, the activity is completed as follows:
3. From the Operator list, select the operator for whom you want to generate an audit
log (Current Operator). To see a log of all operator activities, you would leave as “Select-“.
4. From the Type list, select the type of activity for which you want to view the log.
Leave as “-Select-“ to view a log of all activities.
5. In the Date boxes, enter the dates to include in the audit log. (Leave the dates as they
are to run a report for the past seven days.)
6. Click Show Log. Optum™ PM displays the log in the bottom half of the screen
(Figure 2-29).

*To print the log, click the Print Operator Audit Log link at the top right of the
screen. Save the audit log, label it “Activity 2-5” and place it in your assignment
folder.

Activity 2-9: To Add an Operator (page 27). Several steps have been updated as
indicated:
o An additional sentence should be added to the end of Step 3: “Note: Do not click
on your operator name. Be sure to click New as instructed.”
o Step 5a should read as follows: “In the Login box, enter the operator’s first initial
and last name with no space in the middle, followed by the operator number in
your username. For example, ‘sstudent66694.’”


Activity 3-8: View and Perform Eligibility Check—Electronic Eligibility Checks (page
68). The steps and appearance of this activity have changed in Optum™ PM and
Physician EMR since this book was first published. The activity is now completed as
follows:
1. Pull patient Jane Morgan into context and then click Elig on the Name Bar. Optum™
PM displays the Eligibility History dialog box. In the professional version of
Optum™ PM and Physician EMR, this box would contain a list of eligibility checks
performed for the patient and additional details about the most recent eligibility
check. In your student version of Optum™ PM and Physician EMR, you will receive
a message stating "No Eligibility History available for this patient."
2. The Check Eligibility button in the top right corner is greyed out, so you will have to
manually simulate checking for patient eligibility. To do this, click the icon to the left
of the Check Eligibility button. This will open the Manual Eligibility box.
3. Enter information into the Manual Eligibility box as shown in Figure 3-53A.
a. Status: Select "Eligible."
b. Verification: Enter today's date.
c. Mark Reviewed: Select "No."
d. Note: Enter "Patient is eligible."
e. Click Save.

4. The manual eligibility check will now show in the Eligibility History window (Figure
3-53B).

Activity 4-9: Entering an Appointment Recall (page 91). This activity has been updated as
follows:
o Step 3 should read as follows: “Click New Recall. Optum™ PM displays the Add
Patient Recall box (Figure 4-28).”

Activity 4-13 on page 99. Step 9 is listed as an “FYI Only” step. However, this step must
be completed in order for the activity to function properly.

Activity 7-6: Add a New Immunization (page 175)

Activity 7-9 on page 179. The instructions for Step 5 should read as follows: “By default,
the age and gender criteria default to the information saved for the patient in context.
However, you can change the age and gender selections if necessary. (Change the Age
selection to “All.”)
Activity 7-12 on page 184. Step 3 should be deleted from the activity. The checkboxes
cannot be selected.
Tip Box on page 186. Users who are working in IE 9 should follow method #1. Users
who are worked in IE 10 or 11 should follow method #2.
Case Study 7-2 on page 202. The final ICD-9 code listed in Step b should be “715.90”

Activity 9-6 on page 255. The second sentence of Step 2 should read as follows: “Select
the batches “kproulx2672013” and “Ch9Charges” (Figure 9-29).”
Tip Box on page 501. The second sentence in the Tip Box should read as follows: “Go to
Home module > Dashboard tab > Visit header > Missing Encounters/Visits link (Figure
9-46) and you will see that the Charges for this visit have not been saved (Figure 9-47).”
