New Moodle Assignment tweaks
linked to a new Flexi format

“Make it easier and quicker!”
• …Is the overwhelming cry from our teachers!
• To save time, they wanted more filtering
options when grading assignments submissions,
and an easier way to review and moderate
feedback given to students
• In response, the University of Southern
Queensland (USQ) has developed a few really
neat tweaks to Moodle Assignment, including:
– filters for drafts, extensions, late submissions,
and those not yet released
– The ability to download all or selected feedback
files for moderation

Feedback
• These developments have been received with
overwhelming gratitude from our teachers,
and used extensively!
• The most frequent comment received is that
the new developments have saved our
teachers (and markers) a lot of time 
• Covered all filter options – no new requests
for additional filters to be developed
• Being able to download feedback files has
been very beneficial in moderating feedback

their course activity page and identify the
activities and resources that form their
summative assessment
• Rather than having to resort to strobe or
flashing neon lights in their quest to make
assessment activities stand out, we developed
the “USQ Flexi” format

• The “USQ Flexi” format provides a number of
versatile options, allowing teachers to choose
the section type that accurately reflects the
type of content contained within that section
• The general section types are: weekly, topic,
or assessment
• They can be moved around and easily changed,
without wreaking havoc on dates in the weekly
format

• The initial feedback received from teachers
for the “USQ Flexi” format has been very
positive, as it allows for much greater
flexibility and is very easy to set up and use
• Students think it is a great idea - as they
are able to easily identify their summative
assessment (no more concern about
whether or not they have missed an
assessment item)
Conclusion
• Hoping that some of our tweaks may be
deemed worthy for inclusion into core
