Once upon a time, in a far, far away country, there was a small village near a forest. The forest was full of nice animals, and there was a lake inside it. Near the lake, there were a willow tree and the house of a very handsome boy, called Heitaro. One day the villagers decided to build a bridge and they needed wood, so they decided to cut down the willow tree. Heitaro didn’t want, then the villagers cut another tree. Every night Heitaro was looking at the sky. One night, in the shadow, a beautiful girl came and started to talk to him. Every moonlight night the girl returned and met Heitaro, so later on they fell in love and got married. One day the emperor decided to build a temple. He needed wood, so he asked his soldiers to go to a forest and take some wood. The soldiers went to Heitaro’s village and decided to cut down the willow tree, but finally they cut another tree, because Heitaro still liked a lot the willow tree and didn’t want it to be killed. Heitaro lived for a long time with his wife, but they were humans (this was not true, because the girl was a fairy, but she was mortal), so a sad day they died and the villagers buried them near the willow tree. From that evening onwards, a new star started to shine near the Moon. Today Heitaro and his wife still lay near “their” willow tree. Every year, on the 14th of February, young couples use to go to visit the willow tree, as it can only live through the love of that couple.
