Press Release | 2 | December | 2011 Research efforts rewarded by Heel The Hans-Heinrich Reckeweg Awards for scientific studies in complementary medicine have been awarded to Dr. Juozas Žilinskas and Prof. Tatiana Ivanovna Glotova Baden-Baden (Germany) – The annual Hans-Heinrich Reckeweg Awards for outstanding scientific work in the field of homotoxicology were handed out on Friday, November 18, 2011 in Baden-Baden by Biologische Heilmittel Heel GmbH. The winner of the 10,000 euros Main Award was the dentist Dr. Juozas Žilinskas from Kaunas in Lithuania. The 5,000 euros Incentive Award was issued by Heel in recognition of the veterinary experiments conducted by Professor Tatiana Ivanovna Glotova and her team of researchers from Novosibirsk in Russia. The Hans-Heinrich Reckeweg Award has been awarded 15 times since 1995 for outstanding scientific studies in the field of bioregulatory medicine and homotoxicology. The founder of this model of disease and treatment was Hans-Heinrich Reckeweg – the name given to the award in its dual format: the Main Award and the Incentive Award. The award ceremony was held on November 18, at Heel headquarters in Baden-Baden, with numerous local guests and guests from the winners’ home countries of Lithuania and Russia. The Main Award, was given this year to Dr. Juozas Žilinskas of Lithuania for his work ‘Inhibition of peripheral blood neutrophil oxidative burst in periodontitis patients with a homeopathic medication Traumeel S‘. The aim of this ‘in vitro ex vivo’ study was to evaluate the treatment of patients with periodontitis using a product from Heel and to demonstrate the positive effects of this treatment on cells that normally cause tissue damage. This was a complex comparative study on the oxidative properties of neutrophils – the main form of white blood cells, which play a part in our innate immune defences and contribute to the destruction of micro-organisms – in the peripheral blood of patients. The results demonstrated the antioxidative effects of the Heel treatment. The study was therefore able to show that the treatment can significantly reduce the production of “oxygen radicals” by neutrophils, which if produced in too large quantities can cause tissue damage. Page 1 of 3 The Incentive Award, valued at 5,000 euros, was given to Prof. Tatiana Glotova and the team of the Institute of Experimental Veterinary Science of Siberia and the Far East (Russia), for their work “The antiviral action of Engystol, Euphorbium Compositum S, Echinacea Compositum SN in vitro and in vivo in a veterinary setting“. In this study, the authors demonstrated the antiviral effects of several of Heel products on the pathogens causing diseases in livestock that could have severe economic consequences in Russia. The discussions that followed the ceremony highlighted the need for further experiments and studies in the field of bioregulatory medicine and Homotoxicology. 443 words, 2,886 characters (incl. spaces) Heel is a pharmaceutical company that develops, manufactures and distributes medications based on natural substances.
