Instructions for Using Comics Head V.S. 2.0.1 Comics Head can be used to create digital representations for storytelling, graphic novels and comic strips. It provides built in images and content but also allows flexibility for students to incorporate student created images. Comics Head is a System suggested app and found on the default Tab Pilot profile of the Lenovo Yoga tablets. 1. Locate the app on your device. If showing this app to students consider connecting a tablet to a projector using the screen beam. For documentation on this process please see (insert link here) 2. The opening screen of comics head contains the following options: Shows the last worked comic Pre-created templates Create a brand new comic. START HERE 3. Begin by selecting Create New Comic. 4. You will need to select a page with the number of panels (squares) needed to create the comic. Each panel on the page will be one part or your story/comic. Note that the greatest number of panels available on a single page is 4. This means if you wish to create a comic that consists of 6 panels you would need to add an additional page. (see #____ below) Choose a page with panels to begin your comic. You can add additional pages with more panels later on. 5. Once you have selected the opening page to your comic you can begin to add information such as images and text. The diagram below explains how each of the tools in the menu will work. The main is located at the top of the workspace. Menu Tool Bar The orange border around the workspace will indicate which panel you are working with on a page. Workspace *for this example we are using a page with only a single panel. 6. The tools available in the panel are listed below. Icon/Tool Add/Open Sub Menu Options Use this menu to create a new comic. Add or delete a page. Open a saved file. Assets Find and access backgrounds, characters, props & FX, various theme packages, gallery photos or instant web access (for creative commons image search) Speech Add editable or simple text boxes. Use a “double tap” to open and edit text (colour, font and size) Camera Paint Layers Access the tablets built in camera to add realistic images or student created content. Add colours, lines and shapes to an image. Each item you add to a page (images/text) acts as a layer on the page. Use this area to lock down items on a page, delete items or rearrange them (moving something from front to back or back to front) Page Sorter Use this to view all of the pages you are working on. Delete a full page from your project. Preview See your page in full screen. Double tap to exit. Save & Share Save as an image to the device gallery. (use this save when the project is fully completed) This can then be uploaded to students O365 accounts. *please note that not all of the options are available for student Save to edit use this to save projects that are not complete. Export /Open the project in the Kyocera printing app and print directly from your tablet to a selected printer (see your tab pilot administrator for support) Home Returns to the main menu of the software. In addition to the tools listed in the main menu, you will also find additional features by selecting (tapping) on an image or text. You can rotate, shrink, enlarge and even crop selected images. 7. Once you are familiar with the available tools you can begin to build your project. Start by adding background, characters and props. Tap on Assets icon to view and select. 8. You can resize your selected images by tapping on the image and squeezing the picture from the outer corners to shrink or pulling away to grow. Pull out to enlarge image Pinch image from corners to shrink 9. Add text or speech bubbles to your panel. First select the Text option from the menu bar. Choose the type of text you want to add. Double tap inside of a speech bubble or text box to make changes. Or a single tap inside will allow you to duplicate, format or delete the text. Double tap inside a text box to change the text. 10. You can format the text font, size and colour. Single tap on a text box/ speech bubble to access format options, colour, size, font and alignment 11. Once you have placed your items on the panel (background, images, text) you can use the Layers option to lock, unlock or re-order the items. All of the items on the page are listed here. Reorder them by tapping on an image and moving up or down on the list. Use the symbols to lock/unlock an item on the page. Or delete using the trash can. 12. You also have the ability to take photos using the built in camera tool. Click on the camera to take a photo. You will have the option to add the photo as a background to your panel or just a layered image. Once the photo has been added, you can flip, duplicate, crop or filter the photo. Select the crop option if you wish to use only part of the image in your project. 13. To crop an image out of a photo and add it to your panel use the “free form” or shape option from the cropping toolbar. Use your finger to draw around the item you wish to crop. The select done to add the cropped image to your project. 1. Choose the cropping shape from the toolbar (free form is the one that looks like a flower. 2. Use your finger to draw around the shape. 3. Choose done to add your cropped image to your current panel. 14. The image you crop will be added to the selected panel. 15. To save or print your work you will have a number of options. Some will be more effective than others. Please see the chart below to determine how you will proceed. You will need to choose the SAVE option from the toolbar to begin. If the option is not listed in the chart below, our devices do not support it. Save/Share/Export Options Purpose The saved project can be found in the File Browser and then uploaded to O365, transferred to your computer or printed through Save as Image the Kyocera printing app. Save to Edit Used for students who will need to continue working on the project. Good for projects that are over a period of time. Considerations This option is ONLY to be used for FINISHED projects. Used to print coloured copies of projects. Students will need to use the SAME devices each time they work on the project until completion. Record which devices the student is on for your reference. Used to create a template for future use. This is stored as part of the Template gallery in Comics Head. Used to print to a local classroom printer. *Your tab pilot administrator will need to install the Kyocera Printing App and add it to the device profile. (Contact ET for assistance) Save as Template Open In (current page) Only sends the current page you are working on to the Kyocera Printing App. You will only be able to print in black and white. Used to print to a local classroom printer. Open in (all pages) Sends your entire project to the Kyocera Printing App. *Your tab pilot administrator will need to install the Kyocera Printing App and add it to the device profile. (Contact ET for assistance) You will only be able to print in black and white. Used to transfer various types of content (pictures, files, videos, gallery images) to your computer. USB connecting cable Connect the USB cable to you device and the computer. Locate files under the DCIM file of the device. Every school should have additional cables on site. If not please put a ticket in with IT.
