Training and Technical Assistance Associate Highland Street AmeriCorps Ambassadors of Mentoring Mass Mentoring Partnership About AmeriCorps: AmeriCorps is a national community service program that gives people an opportunity to apply their skills and ideals towards helping others and meeting critical needs in the community. The Highland Street AmeriCorps Ambassadors of Mentoring is an AmeriCorps Program where members serve in mentoring programs across Massachusetts. Organizational Description: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Mass/Metrowest is a member of Mass Mentoring Partnership (MMP), a statewide mentoring organization that is fueling the movement to expand empowering youth-adult relationships to meet the needs of communities across Massachusetts. Over the last 52 years, BBBS CM/MW has helped transform the lives of more than 30,000 children facing adversity by providing strong and enduring, professionally supported, one-to-one relationships with responsible, caring adult mentors who change their lives for the better, forever. Presently, BBBS CM/MW serves approximately 1,700 children and volunteer mentors in 40 communities throughout Central Massachusetts and Metrowest Boston. Mass Mentoring Partnership’s AmeriCorps program, the Highland Street Corps Ambassadors of Mentoring, is currently recruiting 25 Ambassadors for the 2015-2016 program year, which begins on January, 2016 and runs through July, 2016. AmeriCorps Ambassadors complete one half year of service at a host organization in Massachusetts. BBBS CM/MW is recruiting one Ambassador who will work out of our downtown Worcester office location to recruit children and mentors, provide marketing support for the agency and help improve the program and administrative capacity of the agency. Program Summary & Responsibilities: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Mass/Metrowest has been working to increase our capacity through improved quality assurance procedures, improved mentor training options, additional program that target STEM mentors and STEM programing and outreach to underserved areas in our 40 community service area. This position will work closely with the Director of Operations to create a quality assurance plan that will strengthen our policies and ensure that we are meeting all best practices for youth mentoring programs set out by Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, Mass Mentoring Partnership and Mentor. The AOM will help to facilitate these capacity improvements through development of marketing materials, increased social media presence particularly in mediums that are not Facebook, recruitment events in area corporations and colleges and through the evaluation of program and volunteer manuals. They will also play an important role in managing staff training portfolios and developing and suggesting staff training options. They will work to create new training options and provide targeted match support for mentors to increase their ability to maintain high quality, long lasting mentoring relationships that address the specific needs of our at-risk population. This position will also help to increase our CRM capabilities and build strong relationships with other supporters and constituents. If possible we hope to fill this position with a Portuguese or Spanish speaker to help us increase our outreach to communities that speak these languages. Page 1 Essential Functions of the Position (required): Complete Big Brothers Big Sisters training to become an Interview/Math Support Specialist Recruit mentors and mentees Serve as a liaison to volunteers and partners Provide match support at site-based programs Develop online content that is insightful and intriguing to increase our presence on social media platforms Work with program staff to assess training needs of staff and mentors Develop curriculum and toolkits for mentor trainings that can be readily implemented by agency staff for mentors and volunteers Participate in trainings, networking meetings and other programming events as needed Research current best-practices and published research to strengthen currently used training content and resource materials.
