Selection Motivation
• Why these town villages?
– Konitsa and Metsovo are two of the most important
villages in the mountainous area of Ioannina
Prefecture. Each one plays a significant role for tens
of villages arround them both economically and
socially
• Why intra-prefecture villages?
– KTEL has carried out local transportation studies
showing an increased demand for local lines from
isolated villages around the greater territory of the
town of Ioannina.
The Set-up
• KTEL has established local agents in Metsovo
and Konitsa.
– Identified demand, showed increased interest for the
following scheduled stops:
• Ioannina – Metsovo – Kozani
• Ioannina – Konitsa – Katsoria
• KTEL assigned local (at main villages) agents,
gathering demand for intra-prefecture cover.
– Local agents inform KTEL base station for
passengers requesting transportation.
The Set-up (cont.)
• Case A: Metsovo and Konitsa stops.
– Daily schedule
– One (1) operator in the central control
– Two (2) busses in parallel service (one for each
route).
• Case B: Intra-prefecture cover.
– Fixed days: Monday – Wednesday – Friday
– Demand responsive (Local Agents)
– One (1) bus
Service Model
• Case A: Metsovo & Konitsa
– “One-to-One” with fixed lines and partly fixed
timetables.
• Case B: Intra-prefecture
– “Few to one” with flexible service within a corridor
including route deviations
Experimentation Period
• Started September 2007
• Estimated End: April 2007
– Will carry on maybe with slight modifications
in the same model
