American Overseas Dietetic Association International Project Award Grant Application Instructions and Requirements The purpose of this fund is to foster collaboration and the sharing of knowledge and skills among food and nutrition professionals in the international community. An award will be given to AODA members who intend to work in partnership with another food or nutrition professional on a project that will benefit the local community of one of the individuals. The premise is that the AODA member and colleague will have somewhat different knowledge and skill sets that, when brought together, will serve to fulfill a special project. The applicant: • Must be a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the American Overseas Dietetic Association. It is not required that the colleague be a member of Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics or AODA. Amount and frequency of award: One award will be made annually, totaling 3,000 USD. Limitations on how money can be used: • Award payment will be made to the individual AODA member with the stipulation and understanding that the individual will be participating in the project and will satisfy the terms and spirit of the award as defined by the criteria. • The budget for the project can only include direct costs related to the project. • The budget does not allow indirect costs (overhead). • The budget does not allow funds for registration, transportation, housing, or per diem to present results at a professional conference (although travel for data collection is allowed). • If funding for the project has been provided by another organization(s) prior to the granting of this award, AODA requests that the recipient notify the other organization(s) of this award and abide by the rules and restrictions delineated by the other organization(s). If this award is not allowable according to the other organization(s), AODA will not be able to grant this award. Selection Criteria: • Selection will be based primarily on the quality of the project plan. • Applications will be judged on the following criteria: • Project’s merit and relevance of the proposed project to the local community; • Appropriateness of budget; • Feasibility of completing the project within budgetary and time limits; •Plans to submit abstract American Overseas Dietetic Association International Project Award Stipulations about how and when money will be distributed: • 2,000 USD will be awarded at the time the recipient is chosen, and the remaining 1,000 USD will be provided upon the project’s completion and fulfillment of the recipient requirements described above. Recipient requirements: • After the recipient is chosen, a quarterly progress report will be submitted to the Academy Foundation, the AODA Board of Directors and the AODA Newsletter Editor for publication in the AODA Passport. • Within two years of the award: 1) the project must be completed, 2) a final article describing the project and its outcomes must be written for the AODA Passport. As above, the final article should be submitted to the Academy Foundation, the AODA Board of Directors and the AODA Newsletter Editor for publication in the AODA Passport. • Within two years following the conclusion of the project: Preferably, an abstract about the project will be prepared and submitted for the Academy’s Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo (FNCE). Submission of an abstract to a relevant conference within the country where the project takes place is also encouraged. Funding for the registration, transportation, housing, or per diem at FNCE or any other conference is not provided by the award. Application instructions: Complete the attached face page. Provide a detailed project budget (use attached budget worksheet) Provide a plan for abstract submission (use attached worksheet) Submit a project plan of no more than 1,000 words (in English) describing: o 1) the proposed project: aims or objectives; brief description of the community and the need this project will fill; what will be measured to assess whether aims/objectives are met; o 2) how the project will benefit the local community o 3) how the completed project will serve as a resource for the international community of food and nutrition professionals o 4) the specific roles of the applicant and the colleague in completing this project. In keeping with the collaborative nature of this award, the colleague is encouraged to work with the applicant in preparing the essay Provide a curriculum vitae for applicant and colleague.
