Stamford Endowed Schools Mr Edward G Smith, SES Director of Outdoor Education c/o Southfields House, St Paul’s Street, Stamford, Lincolnshire PE9 2BQ SS: 01780 750337 SHS 01780 484246 Email: [email protected] w. ses.lincs.sch.uk May 2015 Contact email: [email protected] Dear Parent/Guardian Personal First Aid Kit and Medication Part of the D of E kit list is a personal First Aid Kit. The D of E has published a list of what it believes should be included in a personal first aid kit (see below). I have noticed that students often arrive either with very expensive first aid kits or little more than a small plaster. I have been liaising with a first aid supplier who makes first aid kits specifically for Duke of Edinburgh students. The first aid kits include everything on the list but are not excessive. They are also only £10, which I feel is cheaper than many first aid kits which may be purchased. If you would like to purchase one of these first aid kits for your son/daughter then please just sign and return the slip below and I will order a first aid kit on your behalf. The cost will be added to your bill and the kit will be handed out after February half term. You may like to purchase a few extra blister plasters for the kit as these tend to get well used on D of E! Registered Charity No: 527618 Medication: Due to the remote nature of all D of E expeditions and the fact students will be remotely supervised it is crucial that you children have any medication that they may need and are also aware of when where and how to administer the medication. Any medication being taken should be brought to the attention of the group supervisor during the pre-expedition check. If your son/daughter has an inhaler, epi pen or other vital emergency medication please make sure they do not leave this at home. It is not uncommon for students with inhalers that rarely use them to not bring them on a D of E trip. Should your child’s medication need some form of special arrangement e.g. keeping in a fridge. Please contact me well in advance of any expedition so that arrangements can be made. Paracetamol/Ibuprofen: These type of over the counter painkillers are not always a good choice for students. Taking one because they have a headache will more often than not simply be masking dehydration. I do not recommend students to bring these on the expedition. If they do need any then they should inform their supervisor or female member of staff before taking them. Name of Student ………………………………………………………………… Form.……...
