Food Garden Award Nomination Form
The Food Garden Award recognises Whitehorse residents who have developed an innovative
and creative food garden. The need to grow more food locally is becoming more important as we
realise the benefits of having access to fresh and healthy food that is grown, processed and
distributed in an environmentally and socially responsible manner.
The garden may feature anything from vegetables, herbs, bush foods, fruit and nut trees and may
use methods such as no dig, raised beds, hanging baskets, containers and vertical systems.
Nominations are encouraged for all projects, both big and small. Also, past applicants of
the Whitehorse Sustainability Awards (any category) are encouraged to apply.
The winning nomination will receive a Permaculture Consultation with Angelo Eliades from Deep
Green Permaculture, Australia’s first backyard food forest.
Design Aspects
 Common and/or unusual edible species including vegetables, herbs, flowers, bush foods,
fruit and nut trees
 Traditional and/or innovative methods such as no dig, raised beds, hanging baskets,
containers and vertical systems
 Permaculture systems that may include creating compost, worm farms and poultry
 Organic practices including low or no use of pesticides, herbicides and insecticides
