More about CWC Schools Kansas City: In the
summer of 2013, Midtown Kansas City families
independently began a movement to create highperforming, diverse neighborhood schools that serve and

keep families in Kansas City. They designed a process
that ensured the community led this effort. The Midtown
Community School Initiative (MCSI) expressed needs
and desires for their families and their community deeply
aligned with those of the families who helped start and
now attend CWC’s existing schools. CWC Schools
formed to address the very challenges and hopes MCSI
described in their Request for Proposals. With much
gratitude to several community leaders in Kansas City for
connecting us, we now have a synergistic, communitydrive partnership between MCSI and CWC Schools that
is not only getting the attention of local media, but also to
our knowledge, is unlike any other community-charter
partnership in the country.
With this building momentum and broad community
support, CWC Schools intends to open new schools in
Kansas City that will become part of the national CWC
network of schools. These schools will be operated
directly by what will be a newly formed and independent
501(c)(3), Citizens of the World Kansas City (CWCKC),
with the deliberate and tailored support and service of
CWC Schools. CWCKC intends to apply for a K-12
charter and begin serving at least 276 students in grades
K-1 in two elementary schools in the 2016-2017 school
year.
More about CWC Schools: CWC Schools was created
to realize human potential by strengthening the bonds
among us and developing true citizens of the world. We
do this by creating free, high-performing public schools
that serve students of all backgrounds in communities
across the country.
We believe that in today’s society, children grow into
strong critical and creative thinkers when they have the
opportunity to learn alongside others with diverse
backgrounds and perspectives. We are proud to be the
first national school network in the country that focuses
on educating economically and racially diverse students.
Our talented principals and teachers create safe learning
environments where students master critical thinking
skills and learn how to engage respectfully and

productively with fellow students, forming meaningful
relationships that transcend cultural divides. This
learning environment allows our students to achieve
better academic results and provides a powerful
advantage in life.
We are proud that Citizens of the World Hollywood had a
state academic performance index score of 912 in 20122013, putting it in the top 6% of all LAUSD schools.
