S1L1 Students will investigate the characteristics and basic needs of plants and animals. c. Identify the parts of a plant – root, stem, leaf, flower. Limited or Minimum Progress toward achievement of standard (1) Student is not able to identify the parts of a plant. Progressing toward achievement of standard Student inconsistently identifies the parts of a plant. (2) Consistently and independently achieves the standard (3) Student consistently and independently identifies the parts of a plant. Assessment Activities Use Science journal to: Have students draw a plant and label the parts. Have students match pictures of a whole plant with individual part word cards. Instructional Notes: Harcourt Science materials provides assessments for each element. In addition, each school has a copy of Picture Perfect Science lessons. Students should know: plants have different parts. these parts have different functions for survival.
