What’s In Your Health Bucket? Most of us take light for granted, that is until we find ourselves stumbling around in the dark. The same can be said about health. We don’t think about our health until we feel the effects of injury or illness. We take for granted a body that is functioning properly. Maybe this is because the signs of disease are much more noticeable than the outward expressions of health. Just as darkness is the absence of light, health is viewed as the absence of disease. We must change our way of thinking if we want to experience our true health potential. Health is more than how you feel and certainly more than just not being sick. We must realize that disease is the absence of health! We need to stop trying to cover up symptoms and address the real issue…HEALTH! I want you to imagine that your health is like the contents of a large bucket. You can add to your “health bucket” by eating right, getting regular exercise, getting adequate rest, maintaining a properly functioning nervous system and taking any other measure to promote health. If you reduce any of these positive measures, you will decrease the flow into your bucket and your health will suffer as a result. By nature, there are holes in the bottom of the bucket. Stress, heredity and aging rob us of our health. Some of the holes can be repaired or plugged and some cannot. Your level of health is determined by the contents of your bucket. Allow too much to leak out and your level of health will diminish. Continually replenish the contents and do what you can to minimize the leaks – your level of health will remain steady or improve with your efforts. Just as symptoms are a sign that your body is reaching its outer limits of adaptability; disease signals that the level of your “health bucket” is becoming dangerously low. I want to realize that the primary cause of disease is a lack of health in the human body. Secondary causes may be related to lifestyle issues and the third cause is the holes in the bottom of our “health buckets.” We use prescription and over-the-counter medications to temporarily plug the leaks in our buckets. While this band-aid approach may give us temporary relief from bothersome symptoms, it does not address the real issue of creating and maintaining health. To experience true health and well being we must pay attention to what is going into and leaking out of our buckets. Chiropractic does not attempt to put band-aids over the leaky holes in your health bucket. Chiropractic, through the power of the adjustment, removes any interference in your nervous system; allowing the body to heal and restore itself as nature intended.
