Post-doctoral position in plant molecular biology, Umeå
Plant Science Centre, Sweden
Forest genetic and Plant Physiology
Umeå Plant Science Centre (UPSC) is a Centre of Excellence in experimental
plant biology, located in northern Sweden. The UPSC comprises
approximately 200 researchers, from more than 40 countries, working on a
variety of key issues in plant biology, including root and shoot development,
flowering, biotic and abiotic stress responses and wood formation. UPSC has
excellent, world-class laboratories and associated facilities for genomics,
proteomics, metabolomics, microscopy, plant growth and genetic
manipulation. The Postdoctoral Fellow will work in the group of Professor
Karin Ljung.
The Department of Forest Genetics and Plant Physiology was founded in the
late 1970s - when the College of Forestry moved to Umeå. The number of
employees has since grown steadily is now around 100, including postdoctoral
researchers and postgraduate students. In the late 1990s it was decided to
join with the Department of Plant Physiology at Umeå University to form a
research center, Umeå Plant Science Centre (UPSC). The Department of
Forest Genetics and Plant Physiology moved into the premises adjacent to the
partner department and together have developed a close and successful
collaboration on research issues, technology platforms, and training of
master's and doctoral level students. The international element within UPSC
is large, with over 40 nationalities represented. The department conducts
introductory and advanced training in plant physiology, ecophysiology, plant
molecular biology, forest genetics and forest biotechnology within the Forestry
program and at the master level. The department offers postgraduate studies
in biology, specializing in plant physiology, ecophysiology, plant molecular
biology and forest genetics. Postgraduate courses are generally held in
cooperation with the Department of Plant Physiology. For more information

Duties: We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join our
team investigating the control of auxin metabolism through a unique
combination of molecular, biochemical and analytical approaches. The
Postdoctoral Fellow will investigate auxin metabolic networks, particularly the
process of auxin degradation and the role of this process in determining the
activity of the hormone in developmental processes, using genetic screens
combined with bioinformatic/candidate gene approaches to identify additional
components in the pathways. Our high-throughput HPLC-MS-MS profiling
facility will be used to identify metabolic pathways affected in candidate
Arabidopsis mutant lines.
Qualifications: The applicant should be well acquainted with molecular
biology techniques such as genetic screens, cloning and mutant analysis.
Documented experience in working with Arabidopsis thaliana as well as good
knowledge of plant development is desirable. The candidate must have a
good knowledge of English.
Competence: As postdoctoral appointments are career-developing positions
for junior researchers, we are primarily looking for candidates with a doctoral
degree in plant molecular biology or plant genetics that is three years old at
most.
Place of work: Umeå
Form of employment: 2 years
Extent: 100%
Starting date: January 1, 2017
Application: We welcome your application marked with Ref no. SLU ua
