1. How far in advance can I book tickets for the Nightjet?
Ticket sales generally start 180 days prior to departure. Travelling dates after the annual
timetable change in mid-December may, however, be subject to shorter booking
periods.
2. How do I change or cancel my booking?
This depends on the type of ticket you have:
Sparschiene tickets are particularly economical. However, they cannot be refunded or
exchanged.
Comfort tickets can be cancelled. Further information is available at

4. What can I do if no available trips are displayed in the ticket shop?

6. Can I buy tickets on the train?
We recommend you to buy the tickets prior to your journey (e.g. online ticket or app), so
that you can take your booked place free from stress. Furthermore, reservations are
required for all Nightjet trains in Germany and Italy. If there is no other way, you can also
buy standard tickets on the train. In this case, an on-board surcharge applies.
7. What discounts are available for Nightjet tickets?

8. Are there discounts for persons with limited mobility?
All offerings (e.g. Sparschiene) are also available to this group of customers.

10. What is included in the ticket price?
The services included depend on the ticket you have booked:
Seating carriage: Seat reservation
Couchette: requested couchette in compartment, mineral water in the evening,
breakfast in the morning
Sleeper car: requested bed in compartment, mineral water, sweets, aperitif and daily
newspaper in the evening, à la carte breakfast in the morning; toiletries, free access to
the ÖBB Lounges
11. What is a Sparschiene ticket?

12. Do I need a special seat reservation for a trip on the Nightjet?
Comfort tickets automatically include a seat reservation. This allows you to choose your
preferred seat already when you book, so that you can enjoy your trip free from any
stress.

17. When do I need to be in my compartment on the train?
Please be at your seat 15 minutes after departure at the latest.
18. Is there WiFi on the Nightjets?
Not yet, unfortunately.
19. Can bicycles be taken along on the Nightjets?
Bicycles can currently only be taken on Nightjets travelling between Germany and
Austria, as well as Switzerland (seasonal). Bicycles require separate tickets and
reservations.
20. Are all the Nightjet trains equipped with air conditioning, and can the
temperature be controlled separately for each compartment?
Yes, all sleeper, couchette and seating carriages are air conditioned, and the
temperature can be controlled separately for each compartment.
21. Is it possible to buy food and drinks aboard? Until when can I buy them?
Yes, beverages and snacks can be purchased from the train team in the couchette or
sleeper cabin at any time.
22. What food is included in the breakfast, and when is it served?

24. I want to travel with my family. What options do I have?
Families (1-2 adults with up to 4 children) can travel on the ÖBB Nightjet in a separate
family compartment, available at a low fixed rate. You will find further details on the

25. Can I lock my compartment?
All compartments can be locked by the passenger, while an intercom system allows you
to directly contact the train team. Couchette compartments can be closed from the
inside. Seat carriage compartments cannot/are not allowed to be closed from the inside.
26. Can I travel with my dog?
Dogs may only be taken along on an ÖBB Nightjet if you book an entire compartment.

27. Can animals be taken along on a Nightjet?
Only in transport boxes which can be considered a piece of luggage.
28. Is there a wake-up service, and where can I order it?
In the sleeper car, the train team will gladly arrange a wake-up call for you and wake
you up on time in the morning.

30. Is there a quiet time at night?
Please observe the night quiet time from 10:00 p.m. until 8:00 a.m. and avoid any kind
of noise. Please switch off the main lighting in the sleeper and couchette cars during the
quiet time at night.
31. When are the sleeper and couchette cabins prepared for the night?
Sleeper car beds and couchettes will automatically be prepared from 10:00 p.m.
onwards at the latest. If you already wish to go to bed at 9:00 p.m., the sleeper car beds
or couchettes in the compartment will be prepared earlier as needed. In the morning,
the compartment will be changed at 8:00 a.m. at the latest. Some trains have times
which deviate from this schedule. In these cases, you will be informed by our employees
accordingly.
32. Is an upgrade possible on the train?
Yes, if there are spaces available, you can request a switch to a higher comfort class (e.g.
from seating carriage to couchette) against a surcharge from our on-board train team.
33. Where can I store my luggage?
Please stow easy-to-stow luggage using the luggage racks above the seats. As their
height is limited, please stow bulky luggage under your seat or in suitable luggage racks,
if available. For the safety of our passengers: please keep the passageways, doors and
escape routes free at all times. Luggage must be stored in a way that ensures that other
passengers are not inconvenienced or impeded.
34. Are there sanitary facilities (shower, toilet, ...) in every wagon?
Yes, there are washing and toilet facilities in each wagon. The deluxe compartments in
the sleeper cars are equipped with their own showers.

36. What are Nightjet partners, and how are they different from the ÖBB Nightjet?
In cooperation with various railway partners, ÖBB offers additional night trains in
Europe. Rijeka, Krakow or Zagreb, to name but a few, are among the thrilling
destinations you can reach with the Nightjet partners.
The coaches and services on these Euronight trains are operated by our partners. The
scope and quality of services on these trains may differ from those provided on ÖBB
Nightjet trains. However, places in the couchette and sleeper coaches of our partners
always include a breakfast.
CAR AND MOTORCYCLE ON THE TRAIN
37. On what routes can I take my car/motorcycle along?
Detailed information on the options to transport your car or motorcycle on the train can
be found here as well as on the last pages of the Nightjet folder.
38. What needs to be observed regarding the loading and transport of my car or
motorcycle?
In general, only cars which are neither higher than 158 cm nor wider
than 200 cm can be transported. If your car is higher, our

Vehicles are generally loaded starting 1 to 2 hours prior to the departure of the train.
Vehicles must be waiting at the place of loading indicated by us at the loading time
specified in the reservation. Please bring motorcycles, vehicles with a height of more
than 158 cm, as well as vehicles with non-metallic roofs to the place of loading right at
the beginning of the loading time. At a later time, loading will no longer be possible.
When entering the facility, please present your vehicle ticket. The vehicle will be
inspected briefly, and you will be asked to park in a waiting lane on the loading parking
lot until you are ready to load your car or motorcycle.
You will load your car or motorcycle onto the transport wagon yourself. Our loading
staff will ensure that your vehicle is secured properly. Please do not forget to retract or
detach the radio antenna prior to loading and to
switch off any alarm system you may have.
After driving onto the transport wagon, please make sure that all windows are closed,
that you have the vehicle in 1st gear and that the handbrake is applied. After this,
please lock your car. Passengers and animals are not allowed to
remain in the car. For safety reasons, only closed ski carriers are allowed. Ski bags, on
the other hand, are not permitted. Motorcycles are preferably transported on the

39. What information do I need for a booking?
Please have the following information at hand when making a booking:
