Your One WARM UP Would you rather stop and ask for directions or continue, acting as if you know the way? SET IT UP For many people, the only way they will ever hear the Gospel is by hearing it explained by someone who is already a follower of Christ. God wants those who are rescued to play a vital role in the rescue of others. So, how can we play our part? CHAT IT UP 1. Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you needed rescuing? Who showed up to save the day? 2. Describe a time when someone went out of their way to serve you. (Hint: Think through situations like a spouse serving you after surgery, a friend who was by your side after you suffered a tragic loss, etc.) 3. One of our core values as a Church is found people find people. Let’s check out what God has to say about that. Read 2 Corinthians 5:16-20. 4. If Christ has forgiven you, He wants you to play a part in someone else’s rescue story. Is your initial reaction to this truth disbelief, fear, or excitement and why? 5. You are the best one to reach someone. Who is someone in your life, (a friend, family member, coworker or neighbor) that you can help find the way back to God? 6. In verse 16, Paul says “So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view.” What are some excuses we use that keep us from investing in those relationships and inviting them to a place where they can come to know Jesus? (Hint: We assume people are not interested or perhaps we think they are too messed up). 7. Let’s take a few minutes right now and pray for those individuals you believe God is prompting you to invest in. If you don’t have anyone in mind, let’s pray for God to reveal someone who needs to know Him. WRAP IT UP We meet people every day who are looking for truth and hope. We want to be purveyors of that hope, yet we don’t always know what to say or how to say it. We can begin by caring enough to step into their world and come alongside them on their journey. Inviting a friend to Easter is a great and caring next step. And remember, it’s not as difficult as we make it. GROUPS @ PARKER HILL DISCUSSION GUIDE ______________________ LEADER TIPS • We have no idea what hangs in the balance of one invitation. Encourage and equip your group members to take that important step of inviting someone to join them at Parker Hill on the weekend. Use the tips below to help your group members take the step of reaching out. HOW TO ASK: As you hand someone that invite card, here’s what you can say: • “If you don't have a church to attend this Easter we’d love to have you join us.” RESPOND TO POSSIBLE OBJECTIONS: I already have family plans for Easter Sunday. • That’s OK… we also have an Easter service on Saturday. I don’t have “church” clothes. • No problem, we dress casually: no Easter bonnets, fancy dresses or pastel shirts required! What about my kids? • We have some special things planned just for kids – they’ll have a great time! If I ever set foot in a church, lightning would strike. • No problem. That’s covered by our insurance! GROUPS @ PARKER HILL DISCUSSION GUIDE
