Mini MArtiAn Activities 5 easy ways to get kids pumped up, in the spirit and to go home with Martians on the brain!!! TAke Me to Your LeAder TAg Area: Gym or outside area with set boundaries Equipment: 2 mini Martians Instructions: Assign 2 students to be Martians by giving them a mini‐martian to hold (taggers) the rest of the students should spread out around the play area. On command Martians chase students (teacher’s choice of locomotor activity, walking/running). When a student gets tagged by a Martian they are frozen. They must stand in place holding up the peace sign. To “unfreeze” them another student must come and hold a peace sign to their peace sign and say “We come in peace” and student responds with “Take me to your leader.” Student is unfrozen and continues play. Switch Martians at teacher’s discretion. Mini MArtiAn Round Up Area: Gym or outside area with set boundaries Equipment: 36‐48 mini Martians, 1 collection container, 4 colored jerseys Set‐Up: Spread the mini Martians around the perimeter of the area. Create a “center court circle” or area if not identified in playing space. Place one collection container large enough for 36‐48 Mini Martians in center of circle/area. Instructions: Assign 4 students to be Martians by giving them a green jersey and ask them space themselves out. Martian’s job is to protect the mini‐Maritans. They may travel in the area between the perimeter and center court. The rest of the students are Space Patrol (SP). Their job is to round up the mini‐Martians one at a time. All SP start inside center court, which is their safety zone. When game begins they may leave anytime to go collect one mini‐Martian. If they are tagged by a Martian the SP is frozen. If the SP has a mini‐Maritan, the Martian gets to place it back in the perimeter. To “unfreeze” another SP must come and perform 5 jumping jacks with frozen SP. They then get a free trip back to center safety zone by walking with their hands up until they are there. If a SP is able to travel to get a mini‐ Martian and bring it back to the center without being tagged they are allowed to put the mini‐Martian in the collection container. Once all mini‐Martians are in the collection container the game is over. Select new Martians and reset! Notes: Martians are only allowed to tag SP in‐between the center safety zone and the perimeter. 4 Martians (taggers) are allowed to travel in gray area SP Collection Container SP are safe if they are in the middle area or outside the perimeter Spread mini‐Martians around the perimeter of playing area Obey Me Area: Gym or outside area with set boundaries Equipment: 1 mini Martian Instructions: Have students form a circle.
