LIVE PLAY and TODAILIES START UP GUIDE

LIVE PLAY and TODAILIES
START UP GUIDE
June 2012
A complete LIVE PLAY and TODAILIES system consists of the following
components:
๏ Mac OS X system running the Light Iron Server application
http://lightiron.com/sites/default/files/LIGHT_IRON_SERVER_V2_4_7.dmg.zip
๏ One or more iPads running the LIVE PLAY and/or TODAILIES application
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/live-play/id430007066?ls=1&mt=8
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/todialies/id510569672?mt=8
๏Wireless Router
๏ H.264 encoded Video Files
LIGHT IRON SERVER REQUIREMENTS
The Light Iron Server application must be installed and operated from a
Mac OS X computer, running version 10.6 or later (both laptop and desktop
computers are acceptable). Currently there are no plans to release a Windows
version of Light Iron Server, however current users will be notified if one is
released in the future. The LIVE PLAY and TODAILIES client applications running
on the iPads must be the same version number as the server application.
iPAD REQUIREMENTS
LIVE PLAY and TODAILIES client applications must be purchased from the iTunes
store and installed on each iPad. LIVE PLAY and TODAILIES are compatible with
iPad, iPad 2, and iPad 3 running iOS 4.2 or higher.
NETWORK REQUIREMENTS
All devices must be connected to the same network for LIVE PLAY and TODAILIES
client applications to access media. If possible, it is recommended to connect the
OS X-equipped computer to the router via an Ethernet cable. This will help
preserve wireless bandwidth for streaming video content to the participating
iPads.
H.264 REQUIREMENTS
H.264 files can be encoded in a variety of ways, but for best results, the following
file specifications are recommended:
-2.4 Mbps
-1280x720 resolution

Security Best Practices
While an adequate level of security is built into the application, Light Iron can
make no guarantees regarding the security of assets and data, as individual
physical and network protocols vary greatly. However, it is recommended that
administrators of the Light Iron Server application follow these additional security
best practices guidelines:
๏ Use a locking mechanism to secure the server and prevent physical theft.
All Mac Books automatically ship with the option to utilize a lock.
๏ Encrypt data on a hard drive.
Consider using Apple’s built-in File Vault.
๏ Do not broadcast the network SSID (Network Name).
Most wireless routers allow for a hidden network name, which prevents
unauthorized users from joining the network unless they know specific network
information.
๏ Use at least WPA2 security protocol on the wireless router.
๏ All devices (i.e., iPads and the computer running Light Iron Server)
should have password protection enabled.
๏ With TODAILIES, physical media is stored on the iPad’s hard drive, so it
is recommended to use Apple’s “Find My iPad” application in case of theft.
๏ Though LIVE PLAY’s design ensures no physical media is stored on the
iPad’s hard drive, it is recommended to use Apple’s “Find My iPad”
application.
