5. Supply Chain
Intu are the leading owner and manager of regional shopping centres in the UK. We recognise the wide range of
potential environmental, social and ethical consequences arising from the products and services purchased by the
company.
We recognise that how we source the raw materials, products and services required during the design and
development of our property portfolio, and for the on-going management and operation of these properties,
impacts on our suppliers, their employees and the environment in which they operate.
The key objectives of our supply chain management strategy are therefore to:

Ensure value for money for intu and our retail partners through effective supply chain
management

Work in partnership with our supply chain to maintain all relevant legal environmental, ethical
(including anti-bribery and corruption) and health and safety standards
This is achieved by the following principles
Regular tendering
We will regularly tender for our goods and services through a fair and transparent process. This ensures
adherence with intu governance and value for money for both intu and our retail partners.
Codes of conduct for supply chain
Intu has a zero-tolerance approach to acts of bribery and no supplier should offer to give/receive any gift or benefit
that could be construed as an incentive to be awarded business within our supply chain.
Within the supply chain potential conflicts of interest can arise during the supplier selection or tendering process,
for example with ex-employees or spouse or other family member. The risk in these circumstances is that it may
be viewed as preferential treatment. Intu must therefore make every attempt to make sure the selection process is
robust and transparent. All current or potential suppliers as well as employees must declare any conflicts that arise
at the start or during the course of business with intu.
Supplier responsibility
Our suppliers should agree to work in line with our codes of practice including whistleblowing, anti-modern slavery
and anti-bribery. Intu expect suppliers to reduce the social and environmental impact where possible as well as
complying with all relevant legislation when supplying goods and services. It is our suppliers’ responsibility to
monitor their supply chain and enforce these same standards.
It is the supplier’s responsibility to achieve and exceed these requirements where possible.
Resource efficiency:
We are committed to reducing our negative environmental impact across our business. We expect our suppliers
to as a minimum meet our own environmental standards (see environmental and people policies) and exceed
them where there is opportunity.

Energy
Where it affects our energy consumption, we expect our suppliers to maximise energy efficiency and lowcarbon energy supply; and reduce embodied carbon and energy in a cost-effective way.

Water
Where it affects our water consumption, we expect our suppliers to maximise water efficiency; and to
reduce the embodied water in the products and services they provide.

Waste
We expect our suppliers producing waste at our properties to adhere to the intu commitments on waste:
to increase the amount of waste recycled (75% at a minimum) and reduce the amount sent to landfill (no
more than 1%).
