PAR: A Regular Heartbeat!
Okay, I admit it! I was an IRREGULAR GIVER. Every
week it was the same story: Sunday morning would come, and I would
search my wallet only to the dregs left over from Saturday shopping. Then I
discovered PAR. “What is it?” you ask.
PAR is Pre-Authorized Remittance, a system of having a predetermined
amount I choose withdrawn from my bank account every month on a
specified date. The United Church of Canada does all the administration for
me.
* It saves me the hassle of trying to find money or writing a cheque for
Sunday morning.
* It helps me make and keep the kind of financial commitment I want to
make to the church.
* It helps me budget for this important part of my life.
* It helps my congregation know how much it will receive from me.
Planning for our ministry is easier because my offering can be counted on.
Will you consider PAR? Help our church have a regular cash flow so we can
provide steady financial support to our programming and ministry
throughout the year.
Book Club – For the month of May we are reading The
Silver Star by Jeannette Walls. Our meeting will take
place on May 24th at 7pm in the parlour! If you have
read the book, please join us!!
Cave Springs Camp Fund: Families who are considering sending their
child to camp, supplemental funding is available through

Some Fun Mother’s Day Facts:
In the 1600's England, Mothering Sunday took place on the 4th Sunday of
Lent. It began with a prayer service in honor of the Virgin Mary. Afterwards
children would present their moms with flowers.
Anna Jarvis was also a woman that may have been behind our traditional
Mother's Day celebration on the second Sunday of May. Anna never had
any children, but wanted to carry out her own mother's wishes of having a
day just for moms. Anna tirelessly campaigned and on May 8th, 1914
President Woodrow Wilson signed a Joint Resolution designating the second
Sunday in May as Mother's Day.
Mother's Day sees around one quarter of all flowers purchased throughout
the year falling on this holiday.
Carnations are very popular flowers for Mother's Day and are thought to be
made from the tears of Jesus' mother (Mary) when she wept at his feet the
day He was crucified.
According to the Insure.com 2015 Mother's Day Index, the various tasks
Moms perform at home would be worth $65,284 (up from $62,985 in 2014)
a year in the professional world.

Lighting the Christ Candle
Gathering Words
We are summoned here by our holy God,
who calls us each by name, and gathers us together in the unity of
Jesus Christ.
From classroom and kitchen and carpool,
we are called into God’s presence.
Young and old and middle-aged, individuals and families, soft-spoken
and outspoken,
we hear our names being called to join in worship.
This house of worship is a place to pursue God’s vision for all people:
unity and joy and faith expressed through different gifts. Let us
worship together!
