Coleus Collection
Stunning foliage for sun and shade
Why plant it:
Durable, intense color for landscapes and containers, with varieties for either sun
or shade.
Where to plant and key care tips:
Coleus is available for both sun and shade areas. When or if plants become too
tall, pinch to promote a bushier habit. (Don’t pinch Kong – the new foliage will be
smaller.) Too much fertilizer can dull the foliage color.
Light: 2-8 hours daily, depends on variety
Water: keep soil moist, do not let soil dry out
Height: 8-36” depending on variety
For Facebook/newsletters:
Coleus is indispensable when it comes to filling shaded gardens with color. Many
varieties will also tolerate sun conditions and can grow to bush-like sizes. To help
determine which coleus varieties are best for your needs, check plant tags for
light requirements as well as mature size.
Durability in the garden is only one way to appreciate coleus – plant it in mixed
containers for the unique color, texture and shape benefits. Some coleus varieties
feature a solid color, with or without an alternate hue on the underside of leaves.
Others have unusual and multicolored foliage with blotches or contrasting
veining.
Coleus is easy to grow and requires little care. It prefers moist soil and not a lot of
fertilizer – too much plant food dulls its color. If coleus becomes too tall, pinch it
to encourage a bushier shape. Removing any flowers that form will help this
beauty stay attractive all summer.
