OBJECTIVE:
Having worked for almost 5 years on Reesle a 30 meter Schooner as Captain, I am now
working as a freelance captain, to do deliveries, charters and relief work.

 From the States to the med on 70 foot Hinckly
 From Denia (Med Spain) to Holland on 50 Beneteau
 From Holland to the south of Portugal on 24 meter

Captain on a 30 meter schooner
In this position I cruised the Western Mediterranean on this
private yacht with the owner or with his adult children. We
sailed with up to 3 crewmembers in this period we did 3
haul-outs and two refits. One complete outside paintjob
and we had the rig pulled and did one big interior
refurbishment
Apr 2003-Mar 2005
Captain on Oleana (a 73 foot schooner)
In these two years we cruised the Mediterranean and
crossed the Atlantic to the Caribbean and cruised from the
Grenadines to Antigua. Besides all the usual captain’s
duties, I undertook engineering maintenance on board and
gained practical experience, I also did some interior and
exterior varnishing. Since I was the only crew member on
board, I was able to gain valuable experience in all aspects
of running a bigger sailing yacht.
Oct 2002 Mar 2003
Worked for 6 months re-caulking teak decks on two sailing
yachts for yacht carpentry Palma.
June 2001-Oct 2002
Started working on sailing yachts mainly deliveries.
I worked on: Foftein a 25 meter Huisman ketch
Saphire a 27 meter Baliure ketch

Second Mate on the brigantine “Swan Fan Makkum”
Length 61 meters, sailing area: the North Sea, the Baltic, the
Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean. Time on board: 12
months. Duties on board: watch leader, instructing and
motivating the deck crew, planning and executing the
maintenance.
Apr 1998-Oct 1998
Bosun on “Hendrik Bartelds” - the three mast topsail
schooner. Length: 49 meters, sailing area: the North Sea,
the Baltic, time on board: 7 months. Duties on board:
instructing the guests when making a sailing maneuver,
helmsman and lookout, watch leader on longer trips,
maintaining the ship and the rigging i.e. some varnishing,
painting and splicing, etc.
Apr 1997-Oct 1997
Deckhand on “Pedro Doncker”- a three mast stay sail
schooner. Length: 42 meters, sailing area: the North Sea,
the Baltic. Time on board: 7 months. Duties on board:
setting sail and sail handing in sailing maneuvers, keeping
the ship clean and the deck tidy in addition to bartender
duties in the ships bar at night.
1995-1999
Sailing Instructor at Sailing school AALSMEER
Worked as a sailing instructor for children as well as adults.
I also trained new sailing instructors. The last year I stepped
in as sail school manager during the owner’s absence.
1993-1994
Military service – 12 months
I was based 6 months in Zagreb, Croatia as a member of the
UN Protection Force - UNPROFOR. I worked in a
communication centre.
1994-1999
Cook in restaurant “Jean-Jean”
I worked as a part-time cook at this restaurant in
Amsterdam.
HOBBIES:
Reading newspapers and books both fiction and non-fiction,
swimming, fitness, cycling, Salsa dancing, meditation,
cooking, traveling.
