CORNWALL COLLEGE Job Description Post title: Full time Programme Manager and Lecturer/Instructor in Animal Management Based at: Duchy College, Stoke Climsland Reports to: Team Lead for Animal Management and Curriculum Lead for Animal Science Responsible for: Support Staff, including Instructors and Assessors, as necessary Grade/salary scale: CC_24 – CC_41 Based at Duchy College, Stoke Climsland, we are looking for an experienced individual to join the dynamic Animal Management teaching team. The role includes tutoring, teaching and assessing learners in a range of animal subjects both in the classroom and in a practical environment Generic role of post: The Programme Manager, Lecturer and Assessor is responsible for student tuition, assessments and assisting with management of the student learning experience from interview and induction through to formal education delivery, course organisation and all related matters. The College framework is to encourage team working where Programme Managers, Lecturers, Assessors, Team Leads and Curriculum Leads work together in a supportive framework to provide the best learning experience for our students. Specific duties: 1. Deliver learning, teaching and training to include lecturing, organisation and supervision of practical sessions, animal-based practical instruction and assessment, to a high professional standard. This may include evening and weekend teaching sessions, as appropriate. 2. Produce and develop learning and teaching materials as required, working within the Brilliant Learning framework and to awarding organisation standards at all times. 3. Setting and marking assessments to include written assignments, reports, projects, practical exercises, presentations, tests and examinations, working to awarding organisation standards and agreed timescales for timely feedback. 4. Liaising with Personal Learning Advisors with regard to: Student induction and vocational tutorial support via the College Pro Monitor system 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. Monitoring student progress within the vocational subject undertaking target-setting and providing vocational subject progress reports as required by the Pro Monitor system Assisting with course selection, design, development, approval and currency Course promotional materials, marketing and recruitment Course organisation and administration at the learning and teaching level, i.e. taking responsibility for specific allocated units to be taught and assessed within the course curriculum Curriculum quality and standards, in conjunction with the Lead IV and Curriculum Lead Participation in staff development and appraisal processes Assisting with development of the facilities and resources available for Animal Management learning and teaching. Liaising closely with the Team Lead for Animal Management and the Curriculum Lead for Animal Science regarding recruitment, course development and requirements for consumable requisites for learning and teaching. Attending evening and weekend meetings, teaching sessions and promotional activities as appropriate. Becoming actively involved in the life of the College and attending organised functions, including College promotional events. Any other duties as required as may, from time to time, be deemed appropriate to the level and grade of the post. This may involve cover, by agreement and consultation, for absent colleagues. Person Specification Qualifications Essential: Must have or be working towards a nationally approved Stage 3 teaching qualification (Cert Ed, PGCE, CTLLS, DTLLS or equivalent). Must have appropriate academic, professional or vocational qualifications at level 6 or above in Animal Management or a closely-related subject. Desirable: Masters Level 7 in an Animal Management/Science-related subject. Assessor and Verifier awards (for work related and other vocational courses). Qualifications in adult literacy and/or numeracy subject support. Experience Essential: Relevant vocational experience within the animal industry. Desirable: Minimum of two years successful teaching experience. Experience of working with and knowledge of a wide range of animal species, their husbandry, health, welfare and behaviour. Demonstrable experience as a recognised subject specialist and exemplar within the curriculum area of Animal Management/Science Personal Attributes and Qualities Essential: Must enjoy teaching and learning processes and take a positive and optimistic approach to working in the FE community, supporting and developing our students. Desirable: Flexibility, adaptability and a willingness to embrace processes of change and development.
