Single Choice Set Tutorial Tutorial for Creating a Single Choice Set Interactive in the Texas Gateway Introduction The Single Choice Set interactive is a quizzing tool that contains question sets with one correct answer per question. The learner gets immediate feedback after submitting each answer. Single Choice Sets can be used as standalone interactives or they can be used within Interactive Videos or Course Presentations . In this tutorial, you will learn how to create a Single Choice Set interactive within the Gateway. Here's the interactive we'll create: http://projectsharetexas.org/resource/singlechoicesettutorial Step 1: Inserting the Interactive Editor You can add interactive content to a resource using the same process you would use to add other content types (HTML, video, and audio). While in the content page you would like to add the interactive to, click the Insert button under the Add Content section. Then select Interactive from the dropdown. In the dropdown under Content type , choose Single Choice Set . The interactive editor will appear. Follow the steps in the editor. Step 2: Creating the Question & Alternatives The Single Choice Set editor consists of lists of questions and corresponding sets of alternatives. The Question introduces the problem to be solved, and the Alternatives are the possible answers the learner can choose from. For the first Question , type the following text in the Question field: When was Texas admitted into the United States as the 28th state? Under Alternatives , we’ll add the answers the learner can choose from. Two empty alternatives are listed by default, since we need at least one correct and one incorrect answer. Note that the first alternative in any set of alternatives should always be the correct one. In this top Alternative field, add the following text (this will be the correct alternative): 1845 In the bottom Alternative field, add this text (this will be an incorrect alternative): 1836 You can add multiple incorrect answering alternatives. Add another alternative by pressing the Add answer button. In the third Alternative field that now has appeared, add the following (this will be another incorrect answer): 1848 Step 3: Adding More Questions Add another question within the Question and alternatives box below. In the Question field, type the following text: What is the longest river that runs through Texas? In the top Alternative field, add the following text (this is the correct answer): Rio Grande In the bottom Alternative field, add this text: Brazos River To add a third question to the set, click the Add question button at the bottom of the List of questions . A new Questions and alternatives box will appear. In the Question field, type the question: What is the largest metropolitan area in Texas? Enter HoustonSugar LandBaytown as the first Alternative and DallasFort WorthArlington as the second. The second alternative is actually the correct answer. Since the correct answer must be listed first, we will need to change the order of the alternatives. Change the order by pressing the arrows icon in the top left corner of the second alternative box. Drag this box to the top of the list of alternatives and drop it there. Now the correct alternative is at the top. Note that you can also change the order of the Question and alternatives groups in the same way. Just use the arrows icon in the top left corner of the question and alternatives box instead. To delete alternatives or question and alternatives groups, press the X button in the top right corner of the appropriate box. Step 4: Adjusting Settings The Single Choice Set editor provides several options for adjusting the interactive’s settings and functionality. You can use the Behavioural settings to enable or disable certain functions, such as the “Retry” button or the sound effects. For this example, we’ll keep all of the settings checked as is. The Settings and texts options allow you to further customize your interactive by editing the labels for the various functions you have enabled. For this example, we’ll stick with the default settings and texts. You can use checkboxes under Options to manage the actions that users have access to. The action bar includes buttons that allow users to download the interactive, access the embed code, and view copyright information. If you do not want to provide access to these buttons (or to the entire action bar), uncheck the boxes accordingly. Step 5: Completing the Interactive Once you have finished all of the steps above, be sure to click the Save & Preview button. You should now have the same interactive as the example : http://projectsharetexas.org/resource/singlechoicesettutorial
