FREE PARKING FOR ALL!
Councillor Grant Davey, Northumberland County Council, has made a
manifesto promise to offer the opportunity for FREE parking for all
communities across Northumberland. Northumberland County Council
manages a range of on and off street parking across the County. Parking
charges currently exist in the following locations;- Alnwick, Bamburgh,
Beadnell, Berwick upon Tweed, Craster, Corbridge, Hexham, High
Newton, Hexham, Holy Island, Low Newton, Morpeth, Rothbury and
Wooler. The Parish/Town Council’s in these locations will be known as
‘LEAD’ Parish Councils and Parking Services have made arrangements
to meet with them over the summer months. If you wish to have an input
into this process, please contact your lead, Town Council (Alnwick). The
Town Clerk is Mr Bill Batey, Tel. 01665 714922, or by post, Cemetery
Lodge Office, South Road, Alnwick, Northumberland, NE66 2PH or by
email - [email protected] - Lead Parish Councils will be
responsible for making community based parking plans that consider
alternatives to charging where traffic problems exist rather than choosing
charging as an easy option. If you have any traffic management, parking
or road safety issues, contact via email
[email protected] or by telephone, Lynn Ryan,
Parking Manager, 01670 624120.
Rural Community Energy Fund
Closure of the
Masons Arms,
(Stamford Cott,) Rennington
A local pub has been forced to
close. Alison and Bob
Culverwell have run the Masons
Arms at Stamford Cott,
Rennington, for the past nine
years, but, unfortunately
reached the end of the road in
June and have sadly now
ceased trading.
The Rural Community Energy Fund (RCEF) supports rural communities in
England to develop renewable energy projects which provide economic
and social benefits to the community. The fund provides up to
approximately £150,000 of funding for feasibility and pre-planning
development work to help projects become investment ready. RCEF
provides support in two stages. Stage 1 provides a grant of up to
approximately £20,000 to pay for an initial investigation into the feasibility
of a renewable energy project. Stage 2 provides an unsecured loan of up
to approximately £130,000 to support planning applications and develop a
robust business case to attract further investment.
Rennington Parish Council will look into viability in further detail.

DRAMA FOR FUN
PRESENT
‘ALLO ALLO’
Saturday 1st February 2014, 7.30pm at Rennington Village Hall
Rennington Parish
News from the Parish
Rock – Middlemoor Wind Farm – A second letter was drafted
to Ms K Harries, Npower, detailing Rennington Parish Council’s
interest and willingness to provide a possible member of the grant
management group/and for the Parish Council to be further involved
and take part in discussions regarding community benefit. No reply
was received, and following a third letter from the Parish Council, a
response was eventually received from Ms P Yardley, Npower. Ms
Yardley advised the Parish Council that following consultations with
Eglingham Parish residents, and after careful consideration, they
confirm that the area of benefit will initially be limited to Eglingham
Parish, this will be for the first three years of the fund. At the end of
this period the area of benefit will be reviewed. Within the initial
three years, Npower are building in flexibility to enable the local
panel to make awards outside the Eglingham Parish boundary if
they should so wish. If the panel do decide to consider making
awards outside the area of benefit during this initial period, it would
be to projects that clearly benefit Eglingham Parish residents.
Rennington – A grant from the War Memorial Trust is
proving difficult to obtain in regard to the cleaning and restoration of
the 1914/18 war memorial which is located in Rennington
Churchyard. Although three estimates from three different stone
masons were obtained, the Trust were not in agreement with the
cleaning/restoration methods as estimated. The Trust has advised
the Parish Council that the prescribed treatments seemed
aggressive and unnecessary and new quotes would have to be
provided. Councillor John Watson is looking further into this issue.
The Get Going Fund – Councillor David Barraclough has looked
into the possibility of taking advantage of this scheme and
concluded that the Parish Council would not be entitled to any
grants and certainly not any taxi subsidies. However, the Parish
Council could look at NEED Transport which provides transport for
individuals and groups who are otherwise not able to access
suitable transport, public or, private. North East Equality & Diversity
Ltd formerly known as Transport in North Northumberland (TINN)
operates a community transport brokerage scheme to help
reduce social exclusion and rural isolation in the North East by
providing access to community minibuses and fully trained drivers
for individuals who are unable to access safe, affordable and
accessible transport due to age, youth, disability, or economical
deprivation. Phone: NEED - 01665 605780 for further information.
Rennington Village Hall - A Quotation for consultation fees for the
sustainability/feasibility study and works administration has been
received by Councillor Keith Wilson. The total fees are just under
£5,000 and an estimate was given of £35,000 - £40,000 to complete
the proposed energy saving works. Councillor’s Alan Tremlett and
John Watson both thought the quote was too low. The fees and
works are hoped to be paid from grant funding as advised by
Community Action and other funders. Councillor Wilson will look
further into all possible funding organisations.
Heritage Lottery Fund's new First World War Programme - The
programme offers grants of £3,000 - £10,000 for community heritage
projects. Projects can focus on any project relating to the First World
War. Contact Heritage Lottery Fund North East for further details.
