OJIBWAY BAY COURSE
With the Ojibway Club docks watching your every move, you don’t want to make too many goofy
mistakes. The start is usually off the South tip of Champlain Monument Island[and the monument
itself]. The upwind leg is a bit of a gamble whether to go right and catch possible lifts off the islands to
the north, or play the middle. Pressure tends to be steady up the middle, so if you find yourself midfleet after a lap, see if a hitch over to the right side can put you back in contention. As in any race watch
the lead boats, and observe the headings in relation to your boat. The windward mark is quite often in
a wind hole, when placed snug to the lee shore, so overshooting the layline while on port is sometimes
worth the extra distance. Staying close to Underwood Island at the top of the course generally pays
off. The RC will sometimes put the gybe mark near the club docks so be wary of boat traffic.
