The Vision Newsletter of First Baptist Church May 30, 2016 The Goal of Discipleship: We have an incredible discipling machine here at FBC. We have a fully graded, life stage form of bible study on Sunday mornings that consistently includes well over 300 people every week. As a matter of a fact, the Sunday School is the main discipling arm of the church. We have two semesters (fall and spring) of FBC Study U which represents multiple topical focused discipling efforts. I would guess over 100 each semester participate in FBC Study U. We also have several men’s and women’s bible studies that meet on various week days. I don’t know exactly how many individuals attend these week day discipling ministries but it is significant. Our worship service also is intended to disciple folks in the faith. We have a lot of discipling focused studies and ministries going on at FBC. The ultimate goal of discipling is to reproduce reproducers. Jesus said to his would be disciples, “follow me and I will make you fishers of men.” Reproduce reproducers! Paul told Timothy, “And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.” Reproduce reproducers! The end goal of making a disciple is to mature someone to the point that they are able to reproduce others in the faith. In other words, to bring someone to Christ, and mature them in the faith to the point where they are able to turn around and bring someone to faith and mature them to the point where they are able to do the same thing. You get the idea. Reproduce reproducers. I would remind all pastoral staff, teachers, and other disciple makers, you cannot take someone where you have not been yourself. Paul told Timothy, “the farmer that labors must first be a partaker of the fruit.” (2 Timothy 2:6) The ministry of discipling in today’s church culture has become a process of discipling disciples that have already been disciple and then discipling them again and again. The problem with this is, they are not being discipled to fruition (reproducers) because they are being discipled by folks who are not reproducers themselves. Something to think about. Blessings, Brother Gary THEY WORK! Last Wednesday I was visiting with a couple after the service. They are relatively new to our church and community. As we were talking, they reminded me that their first contact with our church was last summer at our first “Block Party.” They have been coming faithfully ever since. BLOCK PARTIES WORK! Sitting next to my keyboard is a stack of ten GROW outreach cards. I pulled these from the GROW file Tuesday. Why are they important? They are the cards of ten families that were all visited on a Monday night of GROW and have since joined our FBC family. GROW WORKS! What makes them WORK? YOU! Thank you for giving of your time to make an impact on our community. If you have not helped with one of the “Block Parties” it is not to late. Our next Block Party is scheduled for June 18th. Sign up on the bulletin board. If you have not joined one of the GROW Teams, you can join us on any Monday night at 7:00 PM. I promise, you will be blessed.
