Downloading DIBELS Next data 1. Go to the University of Oregon Site, https://dibels.uoregon.edu/, and sign in. 2. Click on the heading “Reports”. 3. Click on the link “Data Sets” 4. Choose the link “DIBELS Next and Math Data Export” 5. Choose the grade, assessment, and type. Click on the box “Continue”. 6. Click on the link “Download .csv file”. This will provide you with a complete file that includes all students for that grade, all measures for that grade, and all “Assessment Periods” (i.e., opportunities) for that grade (beginning, middle, and end). You will notice that the data is in multiple rows for each student. Save file using a naming convention such as “Year, School, Grade, DIBELS Next” (e.g., 2010-2011 Ruth McGregor Grade K DIBELS Next) 7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 to download additional grade levels. Save each file using the same naming convention. One Way to Upload DIBELS Next Data into DataDirector 1. Open your saved DIBELS Next file. You’ll notice that there are some columns of data that you will need and others that you will discard. 2. Delete all columns EXCEPT Last Name, First Name, Measure, and Score. 3. Use the Sort the data by “Measure”, then by “Last Name”. This will sort the data in layers for each measure (e.g., DOFT Words Correct, Daze Adjusted, etc). 4. Cut the data that begins a new measure the first column to the last column. Paste the data to the right of the first layer of data, skipping one column for viewing space. 5. Copy the column headers from the first four columns and paste the headers at the top of columns you just placed at the right. You are now lining up your data so that you can view the students and their data in a single row. 6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until you have all of the measures in separate columns. Special Note: The DORF Accuracy is stored as a percentage; you will need to change the format. a. Highlight the data in the entire column. b. Right-click to “Format Cells” c. Choose “General”. This will make the cells appear as a decimal (“1”= 100%). d. Insert a column to the right of the accuracy column. Add the header “DORF Accuracy”. e. In the first cell of the new column, insert the formula [=SUM(letter, number of cell to the left)*100]. The first number becomes a whole number. f. Copy that first number. Highlight the rest of the column, then Paste Special. Choose “Values”. g. Delete the column that has the decimals. 7. Copy the specific measure name, next to the first students’ name, pasting it as the new header for the “Score” column. Delete the “Measure” title. 8. Repeat step 7 for the other columns. 9. Read through your students’ names, making sure that the names align horizontally. Start with the first measure and compare it to the next measure. When you have checked that the student names align correctly, delete the columns containing the blank column, the first and last names. 10. Repeat step 9 for the other columns. 11. You are now ready to add your UIC to the students’ names. Insert a column to the left hand margin and add the UIC. 12. In DataDirector, open the DIBELS Next Assessment that pertains to your .csv file. On the left hand navigation, click on “Import Data”. Add the file to upload. 13. Check your data to see that it will import correctly. Click “Next” to move on. 14. Match the headers from the DIBELS Next Assessment with the headers from your .csv file. Click “Next” to move on. 15. The final screen allows you to check one more time. If it looks good, click on the button that reads “Looks Good, Continue”. Always check your report log by going back to the “Assessments” tab, then clicking on the link to view the “Publish” log. This allows you to confirm that all of your data is correct, as well as to fix any errors that may be identified.
